Moving to Zug, hello!

English expat currently working in Budapest for a beer company, we're relocating our European head office to Zug so I'll be out soon to look around and try to work out where to live, eat, drink and be merry.

Nice to see such a friendly & helpful web site! I'll be back to ask lots of daft questions, like where's good to live in Zug if you have a small baby & 2 dogs, are good baby sitters & kennels & kindergartens in plentiful supply, how do you get off speeding tickets (unfortunately I like to drive fast). Hopefully, when I'm older & wizened I can offer advice in return

If you drive fast in Zug, or anywhere else in Switzerland which is more than 2/3 kms over the speed limit, believe me, you will live to regret it.

Friends coming in from France forgot about the rigorous limits, were caught doing 87 in a 60 limit and were fined Fr. 1100.00 on the spot, their car keys being taken away until they came back from the bank with the money.

Life in Zug is expensive, but super quality and Zug has the lowest taxes in Switzerland. Avoid Zugerberg - which has splendid views unless you are earning a super salary - because it is the most expensive. Try around Steinhausen, lots of young families with babies and dogs.

what kind of dogs do you have? Devil dogs are not welcome, or so they tell me

And speeding is ok in the sense that you only Pay And Go Faster - unless you go too quickly - and then they ban you.

One is a Thai Ridgeback, like the Rhodesian only slightly longer fur, and there is her daughter who is a Heinz 57, sometimes tries to masquerade as a fake Doberman but she isn't kidding anybody

Driving in Switzerland sounds awful to be honest. I'm glad I'm going to live in such a chocolate box picturesque place to make up for it

Welcome to Zug!

Have you checked out the International Men's Club of Zug yet...? ( http://www.IMCZ.com ). There are about 180 members, many on the older side (but we're working on that...). The club's language is English.

If you're in town Thursday evening's, stop by the Parkhotel, behind Metalli, between 18:00 and 20:00. Anyone with a little time and a bit of a thirst pops round for a chat (in English...) and usually a beer or so.

very similar in that we are hopefully moving over soon, also with a baby and 2 small dogs!

Did anyone come back to you about kennels in Zug?

The minute we arrive, we will want to put our little 2 into kennels to get furniture and everything else sorted without them racing around the place (!)

only problem for us is that we have 2 small very active dogs (miniature Jack Russells), not the type that relax and sit around, and can deal with being around cats too... we actually need somewhere which is a traditional kennels where they are caged but have say 3 runs out a day... any ideas anyone?
