Hi All......I am new in here, I hope that you all can assisst me where I can find Muslim Halal Food near Swissotel International Zurich Hotel where I will be staying. The food may be of beef, chicken and fish where they are feasible and affordable. My group of Muslim friends and me will be there next month, therefore your assisstance is very much appreciated.
Its a bit difficult (not impossible) to get halal food out here. Anyways, your hotel is at Oerlikon, you can come to Zurich HB in six minutes. At HB, you can find halal food at bombay karachi take away (it is near Central). Also, There is a Turkish masjid near HB, there is food stall inside the Masjid. You can try that too.
Feel free to get back to me if need additional information.
If all else fails, you can always go to Tibits down the Seefeld end of town. It's a vegetarian restaurant/takeaway, which lists the contents of all the foods offered.
Not that I've noticed. I think it tastes different. The only problem I have with it is that it's not as well declared as some meat I could buy in Migro or Coop.
Thanks for that ... Need to check my source then .... On another note , it should not taste any different as it is the same meat , slaughtered in a specific way ....
One of the reasons why halal meat tastes different is because during slaughter, the cow/lamb/chicken/turkey is drained of ALL blood. So when you cook it, there isn't much juice or blood to give it a stronger flavour.
If there aren't any halal options, have you considered kosher meats as a replacement? Some Muslims back at home (I come from Malaysia) do this when they are abroad.
Hello Bob, You will find Ensar Market (Schwamendingenstrasse 34, 8050 Zürich) , its pretty close to your Hotel and normally you would get Halal mince meat, beef, Frozen chicken, boneless and I think you get fish as well. Its all very convinent, except you would have to do the cooking yourself You also get all sort of vegetable and milk, its right opposite a co-op. Its pretty convinent and they are open till 11pm every night except for weekends. Google them and you should be able to get directions from your hotel to it. I think you might even be able to walk to it.
Some also mentioned Barkat, I have to add here that Barkat Store seems to sell rotten vegetable and the one time i bought fresh halal chicken from them, it tasted horribly off. I have since stuck to buying frozen halal meat /chicken from Ensar instead. might also be worth checking dates on tinned stuff before you buy it, sometimes they are way off (at Barkat ofcourse). Have a good stay !
I have gone to the Ensar Market indicated above. But turns out there is no such shop at that address. There is only a shop called Niki Shop and they do not have halal fresh meat - maybe only some sausages. Is the Ensar market closed down? Fortunately, some muslim friends I know from work recommend me to go to another place, it was in HardPlatz stop - bus 33, 72 and tram 8 go there. There is a Turkish supermarket at the nearest block to the stop. They have fresh vegetables, halal meat, sausages, and so on. Hope it helps.
