My C-permit application took so much time

I, non-EU + 6 years in Kanton ZH, applied the fast track C permit 4 months ago. In between I called the hotline of migrationsamt regularly, on each first week of the month.

My application was processed in the kanton level for 3 months, then got approved. Then, at Bern level, bfm took another 4 weeks to give a green light on my application. From the latest call, I was told that to send me the plastic card they need another 1+ month......

From the EF it seems that everybody received the card with less than 2 months. really don't know what happened to my case.

It takes a really long time, min took 3 months.

Really, now I feel much better. :-) Thanks

Are you also non-EU ? Wondering if that makes a difference in the processing time.

I guess so. My german colleague got it in 2 weeks.

I suppose for EU citizens, the whole stuff is somehow as a quick verification process, but non-EU is closed to an overall evaluation process, which takes longer. But I didn't expect so long....

Does it matter? You've got the permit, so all is OK.

I can imagine that with recent moves to limit C permits, they've been slowing down the process and/or really checking if people are entitled to them.

The EU also has better deals for working in CH, and the process is usually a ruber-stamp one.

Interesting. Any clue how would that be treated for a Non-EU naturalized to EU citizen? (B-Permit has citizenship as 'UK')

Strange, usually it takes 1 month or less for most people so this might be a new thing.

Sounds like it differs for EU Vs Non-EU.

Depending on their work load ( or overload) at the time you applied for

the C , that adds to the many other reasons already pointed out here.

The best part is that you were granted it. Cheers!

Thanks Ladybegood.

To be honest, I really want to have the card asap, then i won't have any trouble with migration office for at least 5 years!

however, I respect their work pretty much, as you said, they are really overloaded....

I am from the EU and mine took almost 6 months to come through (over 5 years ago though). Each step they asked me for a different piece of documentation (criminal record, debt record, employment contract etc., etc.).

I guess things have thankfully changed now if EU people seem to be getting them processed in a matter of weeks!

This morning I received the card by post, suddenly I have a strong feeling of freedom.

Btw, although I haven't a positive feeling from migration office, but they are somehow fair to me, they charged me only 20 chf instead of 122 chf. The reason is, my B card is still valid, so it was not a new application, but an upgrade. Cheers.

Awesome! Now you can buy us all a drink to celebrate, Hurrah!

congrats !!!!! for how long the permit is valid i mean 3 years or 5 years?

For EU/EFTA/US/CA, must be expedited, mine took 3 weeks to arrive.

Thanks!

Of course 5 years, do we have 3-years C-permit?
