My EKZ portal in Zürich login problem

Does anybody here use that portal?

It used to work fine until a couple of days ago

When you log in they send you an SMS message which you need to complete the login

Now this SMS arrives hours later by when the login has timed out.

I have complained a couple of times but just get something like “we are working on it”

Does anybody else have this problem?

Yes, but I haven’t used it since the change. I just looked and it asks for a phone number which is a bit silly as anyone trying to break in can supply any old phone number for the check.

perhaps that’s the problem, maybe they are doing some phone number to owner foreign databases lookup which takes so much time

I don’t use EHZ but I have had this and similar problems on a couple of sites lately. I just give up trying to login and return a day later when everything works again. There seems to be a security war going on with companies trying to reduce hacking.

Are you using a VPN? Normally I only have to 2FA with EKZ every once and a while, otherwise I stay logged in.

The SMS are sent with a 3rd-party provider (either Swisscom SMSC, basically, or a company called Vadian). Swisscom mostly has their act together but Vadian is actually better and more reliable.

It’s usually a problem on the receiving side.

No, no VPN

Could be but I receive SMSs OK from others

I have more than one device that is SMS capable so unlikely to be on my side.

Maybe try at different times in the day.

I remember having a similar problem with registering for HMRC - they’d send the confirmation in a letter by post which obviously took a while to get to Switzerland. By the time the letter arrived, the time limit had expired. I think I had to try 3-4 times before I got it in time!

What’s your phone provider?

Sunrise

The SMS from Swisscom’s SMSC (or Vadian’s) will enter the network of Sunrise at some point.

Sometimes, they are apparently actually discarded.

Last year or so we also had disappearing SMS into Sunrise. We opened a ticket with Swisscom’s Large Account Support - but it took weeks until they reported it solved.

We had switched to Vadian long before.

You must open a ticket with EKZ so they can open a ticket with whoever’s API they’re calling.

These days, nobody give’s a shit about SMS anymore.

I have a temporary solution
When the EKZ SMS arrives then I make a new login and use that SMS and it works.

The SMS states it is only good for 5 minutes and presumably that is 5 minutes from when it is sent so it is not delayed.
Unless it is smart enough to know its arrival time and it is 5 min from arrival.

The text that is sent in the SMS does not necessarily reflect the reality of the configuration.

Looks like it’s Keycloak (that is handling authentication).

Good point

Sometimes I am naive.

I did not get any reply to my ticket but when I logged in today I just needed my name and password , no mention of SMS.

A couple of weeks ago when the weather warmed up I hauled my air conditioner out of the attic. It switched on OK but the cooling was only around 20%/30%

It was four years old and a couple of years ago I had a lot of problems with it.
Consequently I decided to buy a new on, also a split unit but with a heat pump.
It is working well and is very quiet compared to the old one and is claimed to use less electricity.

That is why I want my EKZ to check the useage, it certaily seems to use less than old one but needs a longer period for a proper comparison.

I put the old one on Ricardo as a project for a hobby worker and sold it for CHF 104.

well, I remember that all EKZ data was fake, updated only once a year, so you haven’t missed anything
