I weep for you.

That is nothing to do with internet speed, that is CPU (processing power) and RAM.

I should have chosen "best of three".

I'm just kidding, my last was similar, and at least you can stream ok and download things at a reasonable rate with that connection!

Interesting that no-one has posted 1 or sub 1ms (ie 0ms) results from Speedtest. This reported my connection as between 0 and 1ms when I subscribed to Swisscom delux free trial (max 20mb download) which reported as: 1ms 20.88 down 4.19 up. When the offer expired I went back to their most basic service (cash is tight), which gives me 4ms latency.

Am not in CH, but slumming it in London docklands sharing a copper connection with 4 people that really sucks with 45ms pings. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4799938955

Well, since February I am using the 1Gbps offer from init7/fiber7

https://www.fiber7.ch/en/

Never had a problem with them and the downloads are amazing. Constant 120MB/s on downloads (private FTP and private torrent trackers)

I am using a Ubiquiti Edge Router Lite and most of my connection is on cable. Just the Ipads, Iphones are on Wifi.

I'll post some speedtest results this evening.

120MB/s?

I have serious speed envy right now.

It's all in the router

What kinda throughput are you getting on the wireless? You're on init7's stock modem?

Not all, it also depends on other factors, but the router is always a good start.

I am using this router: Ubiquiti Edge Router Lite

https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgerouter-lite/

It is only wired and and amazing router for it's price. Better than most Cisco out there.

For Wireless I use a Netgear Extender: Netgear EX7000

Most of my stuff is connected thorugh LAN cables (PC, Dune multimedia players etc.)

Interesting thread and this provider Fibre7 is news to me. Great to see competition opening up via basic resellers. I also didn't know fibre (FTTH) was being rolled out in Switzerland, naively, I thought it was everywhere already, as we've had it since 2008 or so, I think

Fibre7 seems to offer extraordinary value for stripped bare fast internet without all the other stuff you didn't ask for (or need).

CHF777 / year plus the one-off installation/hardware costs for modem/router is spectacular compared with chf1200/yr for Sunrise gigabit cable or 1668/yr for good old Swisscom (albeit with free hardware, billed monthly in arrears etc., etc).

Understandable, then, that it is very basic site with very limited info in EN. But for that price, the extra effort is worth it.

Seriously considering it.

I know! Init7 should pay me referral fees!

Since it requires some form of installation to get it TTH, are you Fibre7 subscribers typically home owners too?

I am, but I think any newish build should have Fiber Optic as standard. Certainly in the North of Zurich it seems to be the way it's going.

the installation is normally free.

I live a new building (2009, 5 flats only) in Zürich Altstetten. We have here fiber optics and the OTO Box in house.

For the price Init7 offers its Fiber7 services there is nothing out there that can compete. No issues so far and awesome speeds + low latency.

These are my results

I was just downloding Starcraft II - Legacy of the Void

Here the FTTH coverage in Zurich as of Nov 2015.

So far 160 000 Buildings have access. An other 80 000 should be connected till end of 2019.

It is an open access network, and Fiber7 is just one, although the one with the best 1Gb/s offer, of many providers.

@Sparxxx: Hey. that's even ~1230 Mb/s

Yeah, thats why I said the router is very important.

With an Asus AC68U I was not getting this speeds. "Only" ~850mbps
