My review of Fibre in Zurich (FTTH/Init7/EWZ)

Sub 1ms means the Speedtest server cannot be further away than 150km.

perhaps but with Fibre7, you seem to have perfect transparency (HAH!) - and pay for exactly what you get, and you pay for your hardware, your installation, and postage of equipment:

Right... I have cancelled cablecom and they will seal off their sockets by early january.

Fiber7 should be installed in mid-December. Question is (I am a noob at this), what equipment do I need to get?

- the Digitec Fiber7 bundle

- what else?

And what happens to my Airport Extreme?

Yeah, I also got the Fiber7 Bundle from Digitec. You can by them also separately and fight them a little bit cheaper... but no big difference.

If you want to get the most out of the service don't buy the router Fiber7 sells. You will get only half the speeds.

Go for a Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite. A little bit on the professional side but gets every percent out of the 1Gbps line .

Or go for a Asus/Netgear Router... latest models.

Our high-rise finally got wired up for fiber yesterday; by half an hour after the electrician had left, I'd ordered my fiber7 gigabit link.

Been a bit frustrating for the last year, given that the exchange is 100m down the street and I've been unable to order until the landlord finally moved... but repeated emails work magic, eventually.

I ordered mine a month ago and gave 1 January as a start date. Fiber7 replied very quickly and told me that Swisscom has blocked any installations during the xmas period, so they would need to install before Dec 15 at no extra charge, otherwise I would need to start at a later date. I said ok!

As I do not have the plug in the house and only has the OTO box in the garage, a technician has called me for a 4 hour appointment next week. He said that installation of the plug to any "living area" is free (if I want to fix it somewhere else like the bedroom it is also free but I need to sign an agreement to change the location), but if I want to change it at a later date, I would have to pay for it. I told him that my garage is like 2 floors down from where I want to have the access point and he said that he knows because he can see from the plan. (??) Well I hope he really knows as I cannot see how he can install the cables all the way upstairs.... we'll see. So far so good...

I had the same. It involved a lot of swearing and routing cables through conduits. If it is a flat, then there are probably conduits going to a central point.

So... 3 guys came around in the morning and spent about 3 hours swearing their way. First tried to pull the cable through the old ISDN network, unfortunately one of the sockets is blocked by a built-in I recently put in. Then they tried the cablecom network and success! Plugged in the stuff I bought from Digitec and voila, ping test shows 2ms. Superb!

hello guys

i have the fiber7 signal up now and it works, but im now on my 3rd router first i tried the cisco vr130 then the netgear R700 and now im on the Ubiquiti edge lite

which is recommended by someone in this thread.

if i plug the cable from the converter directly to the pc DL rates are 900+/900+ up/down but via router its about 150/150 up/down (all Mbbs)

and i want to ask sparxxx how he made it work for him.

SC2 download Screenshot is awesome. i want that too

sry for my bad englisch im a schwizer on a .ch site

I don't believe there's a rule that states that a site on a .ch domain needs to be in German?

What if it were in Italian? Would that be better for you?

P.S. Your English is fine.

I have the fiber cable plugged into a transceiver, which I plugged inside the media converter (all this came from digitec). From there, a normal Cat6 cable to my Airport extreme. From AExtreme then to my computers and so on. I get between 800 to 950 down and up.

Fiber7 is expanding and aim to be available in 2 million households by 2018.

I asked them about Geneva and said that would Gigabit Internet come up there during 2016. In the meantime one could sign up for FTTH.50 (symmetric 50 Mbps) and migrate to Fiber7 when it becomes available.

BTW, do they offer any fixed telephone along with Internet access?

They don't have an offer for telephony at the moment but I had my Swisscom number ported to Greentalk and it has been fine with both Green and now Fiber7.

See http://www.green.ch/de-ch/internet-t...greentalk.aspx

So I was told that where I live in GVA (Les Acacias) would get a PoP around July 2016.

On a slightly different note: How are the uptimes with Fibre7? Any issues? I will be bringing my router, an Asus RT-AC68U flashed with Merlin. Anyone have any experience with Fiber7 and the Asus RT routers?

I have an RT-AC68U with Fibre7. I don't recall my connection going down in a year of service.

Awesome! Thanks! One more note: Is the RT-AC68U able to handle gigabit smoothly for you?

@Phil_MCR: So, just to confirm: your DHCP leases only last for 120s? So in essence it will acquire a new ipv4 address every 2min? So without a static ipv4 address you basically can't connect home...

In practice it usually renews with the same IP address.

I followed your advice and went for a Ubiquiti router. I though I was able to configure it (my network courses are 10 years old, was not expecting to have forgot everything!) but no

Any help would be welcomed :-)

So far the customer service of Fiber7 is excellent! Just need to make this router working

Lee

I already have an Asus RT-AC68U so there would be no reason to buy a router. This router is already gigabit compliant and supports wireless AC
