My review of Fibre in Zurich (FTTH/Init7/EWZ)

Update #1:

FTTH.50 upgraded to FTTH.300 (symmetric 300 Mbps) for households with fiber but without full Fiber7 availability.

Update #2:

Fiber7 available in most of the city of Geneva with 1 Gbps. Nearby municipalities to be added in July.

Glorious! 300 Mbps till July.

Hi guys! I'm thinking about switching to Fiber7 from UPC and I'd have a couple of questions:

- I have read that some of you had issues while configuring the connection and the router. Do you think it is feasible for a person with average IT skills?

- Since Fiber7 does not offer any TV, how do you manage to watch TV in HD?

Thanks a lot

Once you're over 250Mbps, I doubt you'll notice any difference - you'll just pay more.

I have wireless to the TV measure at 80Mbps and can watch 4K Netflix without problem...

re-check, they offer tv now, i got a email a few weeks ago with the offering...

And they have a special action during the month of June: the Fritz!Box 5490 is available for 222.- (plus shipping) instead of 299 chuffs.

Another +1 for Fiber7. Using an Asus RT-AC68U, reliably see ~900Mbps up and down. And no problems with service in 2 years.

Hi friends,

How to know which area has fiber available around Zurich?

I will probably move there soon and it's important to have the fiber at home.

For exemple, is Uster, Greifensee or Volketswil covered and if yes by which company?

Thank you

Depends what you want to do with your internet and how fast you want to go. Switzerland has 250 - 500 Mbps connections in most area. Check http://www.upc.ch/en/ and Swisscom.ch...

I just need an availability map for fiber so I can see the areas where the fiber is available without entering address one by one a million times.

(not interested in cable for many technical reasons I'll not develop here)

For example, this is french ISP Orange availability map:

http://reseaux.orange.fr/couverture-fibre

Just put in the postcode at either UPC or Swissocm...

http://www.upc.ch/en/bundles/create-your-own/

It doesn't work with 8610 (Uster) Ihave to put full address...

Does it really work on your side?

Hey there. At the moment I have a rather unreliable UPC Cablecom connection in Zürich and I'd like to swich to EWZ Fiber (socket already installed).

Has anybody any recent experience with GGA Maur on 100Mbit (or any other operator on EWZ)? They have the most convenient offer (1+3 months free trial, no aufschaltung costs), but can't find anybody who has it online...

At 1 A Speed i payed for the Fritzbox 7490 only 99 sfr.

I am with 1 A Speed , got 200 Mbit(sometimes more then that), connection tested for up to 400 Mbit.

First 3 Months are free

Thanks Blackbird! Have you tried speedtesting to some server in the US? I don't really use american services that much, but other customers complained about abysmal speeds from there.

Hi guys,

Does anybody of you have the router FRITZ!Box 5490? I saw that it has a port to plug in directly to the optic fiber. Is it working with Fiber7?

I have been checking several fiber options with EWZ. iWay said that the whole EWZ network needs an adapter / converter So...there is no point to have a dedicated port for that. Any experiences to share?

Yes, it's working fine. No issues here. It's even on their website as recomended hardware:

https://www.fiber7.ch/de/fiber7-tech...ber7-hardware/

I use it since April without any problems but only as router. For wi-fi I use a Netgear EX7000 set as Access Point.

True. Swisscom gave me a free update from 100/100 to 500/500 for 6 months. Theres certainly not the difference I would ever pay for. Swisscom has cut its own throat!

Hi guys!

As this thread is about fiber, let me ask maybe a bit strange question: with OTO-socket you have up to four fiber links, right? Is it possible to subscribe to two different ISPs (just imagining that I could use 2Gbps)?

I seem to recall mine had two sockets and only one was connected
