Hi everyone,
I am writing about my maiden name mismatch between my new passport and my Swiss B Permit. I will be travelling from India to Zurich soon. can you please help me, if border police will not let me enter Zurich? Or someone has been in similar situation please.
Thank you in advance ![]()
Bring your marriage certificate with you?
Which authority made the mistake? Swiss or Indian?
Definitely bring your marriage certificate.
Do you have copy of previous passport?
If it was indian authorities, then change flight if hou have to, and get indian authorities to fix. Otherwise names changing on the fly cause INCREDIBLE issues with Swiss system - i know of a Swiss guy who avoided military because some dept got one letter of his family name incorrect.
If it was swiss authorities, then get to changed in your swiss papers ASAP.
If swiss border police is picky, you can also show them some other personal details like bank cards, sbb abo, other docs to sshow you do live in ch and have been …
Swiss authorities have biometric photos of you. So they can verify…
But for travels elsewhere, you will never know the surprise until the 13th hour.
Good luck…
It’s not unusual for this sort of mismatch, I recall my wife’s passport was still in her maiden name for the first few years we we here. As others have said, just make sure you have your marriage certificate (not the original, just a photocopy is fine) for non-Swiss customs.
The Swiss authorities will just look you up from your B permit and find your maiden name anyway, so you should have no problem getting in even without it.
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your reply, it’s in the India now I have my husbands surname on my renewed passport. I contacted the Swiss migration and they told me to change it on b permit, but it can only be done in Zurich. So I’ll have to travel with the different surnames on passport and on B permit. Hopefully everything will go alright ![]()
Thank you for your reply. Hoping for a smooth travel ![]()

I suggest you to book a Swiss air flight from India directly to Switzerland (without any layover in any third country). Otherwise you might face a problem boarding the flight - some stupid airliners may not let you board. Keep copies of the email you received from Swiss migration office.
