Naturalisation: Pros & Cons of Applying Separately vs Together as a Family

We are a family with young children preparing our naturalisation application. My husband and the children are already eligible to apply, while I will become eligible in about six months. We are therefore considering whether to apply separately now (my husband and the children) or wait and submit a joint family application in six months.

Starting early seems better given the long process. In case we need to move to another canton for work reason, one of us would have finished the process earlier and might give us some lead time to plan the move already. This is important considering school age children.

We know separate applications increase costs, but wondering if there could be other subtle downsides. For example, administrative handling, processing time differences, or family interviews.

If anyone has been in a similar situation or gone through separate naturalisation process, I would really appreciate hearing how it worked out and whether you would recommend applying together or doing separate applications is also fine.

Thank you very much in advance!

Personally I would wait. Six months is nothing in the greater scale of life and it’s going to make things easier and probably more fun to go through the process together as a family.
I had a personal situation where my wife doesn’t meet the language requirements (plus she’s super anxious for the interview part) and we decided I’d go on with the kids until she feels ready. But if you are all ready to do it, I’d do it together 100%.

Cheers
