Naturalization in ZH as Zweitwohnsitz

Hi all!

I should be starting soon with my naturalization process, I have been in Zurich for more than 12 years.

However, I have found A really cool flat in Lugano and I’m thinking of buying it and moving there.

Am I allowed to start with the naturalization application with Zurich as my second registration place?

Please let me know.

I don't know about Zurich, but in Basel, no.

Here, you can move before the federal approval but after the local and cantonal approval has been secured.

Do you know if I declare Lugano as my primary residence, if I should be immediately moving there? it would be interesting so that I can finance the flat from the pension.

I think you'll find that each canton and community has its own minimum residence requirements so if you changed your official residence, you would no longer qualify in ZH as you wouldn't be resident there, and you might have to wait another 5 years in Ticino. I would buy now, split your time (even spend more time there), but absolutely keep your official residence in ZH for another couple of years while the naturalisation process goes through.
