Naturalization interview/exam for degree holder from CH university

Hi,

I am starting my naturalization application in Kt.Zurich and i am heard from a friend that as i have master degree from UZH, i might be exempted from interview and exam, is it true?

Was your Master's taught in a national language? If so, this only means you can prove your competency in a national language with your UZH degree.

It was in both German/English.

Most Masters degrees are primarily in English. A bachelor degree would undoubtedly exempt you, not so sure about a Masters.

Thanks for directing to the page, I summarize the findings, hope it helps others who seek the similar info.

If you apply before June 30/2023==> If you hold tertiary degree from swiss university, You are exempted from an interview in Kt. Zurich.

If you apply after June 30/2023==> Based on new law in Kt. ZH, you are not exempted from interviews, exemption not applicable for tertiary degrees.

I find it weird that it ever exempted people - studying at uni doesn’t mean you are integrated. I could understand it for several years in primary/secondary school.

I’m not entirely sure that a Masters alone would be enough to exempt them personally. It depends how they define a tertiary degree I guess.

It strikes me as peculiar that you’d be exempt from an interview if you were holding a Master’s taught in a national language. I’m sure I’ve seen in bfs.admin.ch that holding a Master’s taught in a national language proves your language proficiency only.

You are only relived from the Grundkentnisse-Test. They can still perform an interview (as this covers such things as motivation), and they can also ask you questions which are part of the Grundkentnisse-Test. It is just assumed that you already know that stuff, but this also means that you should know the relevant stuff.
