Does anyone know how long it takes to receive a 'case number' once you submit the application?
How does the canton verify that one has met the "number of years" requirement? Do we need a new attestation letter from the commune?
When are police interview and commune interview take place?
How long does it take to obtain SEM approval (if all goes well)?

We became Swiss in 2019 and that was about 2 years after we started the process. I suspect it will take at least that long.

P.S. The Canton doesn’t need verification of how long you have been here. It’s written on your permits.
P.P.S. Some communes are notoriously more difficult than others. Founex, for example, is very difficult as is Nyon. Other, smaller more rural communes are easier.
P.P.P.S. The kids have C permits I hope. That is now a requirement.
My daughter did an application by herself over 2 years ago. She is 20 now.
Comune interview was first (don’t remember when), than few months later (and nearly a year after submitting application) she had police interview.
End of December she paid last bill to SEM and now she is still waiting for final letter/approval.
2 months ago I sent applications for my 2 sons (10 and 17 yo). Haven’t heard anything back so far.

I just saw something online - it says that years living here between age 8 and 18 count double (5 years vs 10) but you have to have lived here for six years before you can apply. Is this correct? or is 5 years for kids good? i.e., do we wait to apply until we cross the date into the "end" of the 6th year? we have been here 5 years 7 months.
Bowlie - my heart sank when I read your post - we are in Founex. Note that we (husband and myself) are not applying, only the kids. They participate in sports activities in Founex, etc. Is there something they can do to make their applications more favorable?
Separately, is it a good idea to work with a lawyer?
