Need a new vacuum cleaner

What should I get?

Based on the info, I'd say get a good one.

Which one's are good?

Depends, some are great for an easy floor like wood, others great for carpet, some are great for all, some need a bag others can do without, some are good but make a lot of noise, others are pretty silent.

There are so many different ones, what are you looking for?

Power on a hard floor. Wont break down in the next 10 plus years. With throw away bags. Don't want to have to vacuum after emptying the dam thing.

And nothing with a mind of its own!

I bought this on some years ago. Does everything I want it to do and does it well. You don't necessarily need a cat or a dog either.

I wouldn't get a Dyson - Miele is way better, in every way, in my experience.

We have an older version of this one. Still going strong after 10 years:

The bags are super easy to deal with and our machine pops open when it's time to change the bag. I love having the attachment for upholstery as well as having different feet for carpet and wood. It's lightweight and doesn't take up much room.

the ones that suck

We've got a Miele cat and dog -it's 20 years old and still going strong. Although we have a Roborock now, the Miele still gets used regularly in those places where the Roborock won't go and for vacuuming up DIY dust etc.

Our place has a plumbed in vacuum system, it's great.

Main unit is downstairs in the laundry, we have a hose with all the different attachments, each room has a little flap about the size of a socket, just pop in the hose and suck. Best is the kitchen, there's flap about the size of a letter box down at floor level, foot operated button, kick in any junk on the floor there..

Get one of those

I would never get anything but a Miele. I 'dipped my toe' with a Dyson handheld. It's absolute rubbish. Almost no sucking power and it cuts out every few seconds.

Not sure why we replaced our first Miele, as it is still going strong after 12 years and it's now used for the cars and cellar. New ones are very much lighter though.

A Philips....

I'd say get a whatever Miele you like from the ecoline or powerline for something about 200,- / 250,- and you should be set for years to come.

Had a Dyson before and thought it was good. Now I have a Miele and it is way better. Techmania has it on sale now.

The dyson handhelds are ok if you want something portable.

I have Miele washer/dryer and kitchen applicances and don’t think they are good, but the vacuum cleaner certainly is the best I’ve had.

Our dyson handheld did the same. We called dyson and they sent us a new battery for free and now it works fine.

I use a Migro own-brand Mio-star hoover, bought thirty-five years ago in a sale and it still works perfectly. Well worth the forty-two francs it cost at the time.....

Picks up pins and sewing threads (a real challange for most hoovers), and has replacable bags.

Maybe six years ago I invested in a second one (couldn't resist buying the limited edition green Budget version), but that's still in its box waiting to replace the original one!

Henry fits the bill. A bit old school and heavy though...

This will do the job. Those viruses won't stand a chance!

Get one with S-Bag.

Well, my experience is not entirely the same. We are confident with Miele for main vacuums but we also have a Dyson handheld (great for spot cleaning & in car etc) which has been really fantastic, apart from a very short battery life once fully charged
