I just moved here from the US. I'm trying to setup a Roku to access US channels, but Roku unfortunately doesn't allow me to configure its DNS settings like AppleTv which means I need to setup a VPN. However, I can't figure out how to setup a VPN on my Swisscom Centro Grande router. The UI doesn't have any settings which would allow it.
I did buy another router which is DD-WRT compatible. However, I can't get it to connect to the internet because Swisscom uses some proprietary coding which requires a Swisscom box to be used as the modem. I can't set my box to bridge mode either because that functionality doesn't exist with the Centro Grande.
So, I'm stuck. I need a solution which either lets me set a Swisscom box into bridge mode or which allows me to set up a VPN on a Swisscom box. I do have Swisscom tv and phone, although I suppose I could go without if truly needed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I did find this which looked helpful:
http://www.tuxone.ch/2012/11/betrieb...o-routers.html
However, my router won't let me upload that old firmware so I can't use the information in the link.
I'm not particularly savvy on router setup so I may be missing something easy too.
Thanks!
By the way, I am aware I can configure the DNS settings on the Centro Grande, but it only partly works with the Roku (it unlocks Hulu and Amazon Prime, but doesn't unlock other apps like Netflix or SlingTV). Only a VPN unlocks everything.
I did just find a router with a built in VDSL modem (the Asus RT-AC68U). Anyone try using this before? It looks like it is DD-WRT compatible so I think it should work.
Sorry! I'm not trying to spam myself here! After a bit more reading the Asus modem/router is the DSL-AC68U and not the RT-AC68U and DD-WRT doesn't work on the DSL version. So... that won't work either.
I'm feeling stuck and frustrated. @tuxone had some helpful info but it looks like it won't work anymore. I did get Swisscom to agree to send me the Internet Box for free, so I guess I will see if that has more functionality than the Centro Grande.
Hi,
i did the same with a router only dd-wrt compatible device (cisco..).
I connected the router to the centro unit, configure vpn express on the same unit to always connect to my specific country and then connected the sky roku box.
One step more than yours but it worked!
