Netflix can see my swiss location despite using hma vpn

I had been successfully using netflix behind HMA vpn.

Last week when I tried to watch, i got a message that its not available in my country.

This is the same on my tablet & smartphone.

I've tried the following to no avail:

3 different VPN locations inside the US.

uninstall & reinstall netflix app.

cleared my chrome & netflix application cache's

Has anyone had difficulty with this in the last 2 weeks & how did you work around it?

Thank's y'all.

H.

I use my private network , works a treat with netflix

Does the app use location services?

I have just had the same with BT sport app. It works fine with VPN from PC/laptop, but will not now work in iPad

1. Try to disable geoloaction on your device

2. Try setting another time-zone (something more US-like)

3. Try to reinstall the application

4. Try using less popular US VPN service, currently I'm using Seed4.Me (free trial at https://seed4.me/invitations ) - it's doing fine.

Same with Now TV, even after playing with vpn and location services settings on an iphone. Laptop works fine...I'm guessing there's no way around it.

I am just streaming Netflix in Malta on my iPad, using 3G from a hotspot on my old iPhone 3GS, no issues

Has anyone here tried the HolaUnblocker add on for browsers? Its free and if you are using your PC/Laptop it works great with Netflix/Hulu and pretty any other region restricted content.

This might be a silly suggestion, but make sure that you select "Send all traffic through VPN connection" in your VPN settings.

Sometimes when I configure a new VPN I forget to check it.

That setting is present on all Mac's and iOS devices, but I'm pretty sure Windows and Android have an equivalent.

Usually the answer is much simpler.. Netflix, et al, learn the US-based IP ranges of HMA (And other VPN providers) and usually just block those.. Problem solved (for them, at least). Overplay's SmartDNS may ultimately suffer a similar fate.

I've had this problem with HMA.. just cycle through enough cities/sites and you'll eventually find the ones that Netflix hasn't gotten around to blocking, yet.

Thanks all.

I got it working by reinstalling the app again & clearing the app cache.

Works fine now again.

I still need to get the DD WRT wireless router so I can watch it on my samsung TV. I'm limited to tablet & phone viewing right now.

Which app did you uninstall/reinstall?

Netflix app.

what probably happened: your VPN connection crapped out (or was disabled) while Netflix was still running in the background. Make sure to actually close Netflix (simply hitting the home button won't do the trick, neither on iOS nor on Android) BEFORE you disable the VPN service

Agree, there is no way they can detect this. At best, they can see you're using a VPN but no way to trace from what country it is from originally.

Or they access the log/data of your VPN provider
