Netflix in Switzerland

Hi,

I have a UK Apple TV 3 here with me in Switzerland. All working fine for most parts however I have had enough of paying up to £9.99 per movie on iTunes (UK account). I have a UK Netflix account that I pay £5.99 per month whenever I am in the UK and can stream as many movies and documentaries as I want all month through my ATV and also via my computer.

I know there are ways around getting NF to work in Switzerland however I don't want the headache of all the VPN things that need to be changed that I have read in other threads. Would be nice to get up and running here with my NF through my ATV or even my computer so I can stream it to my TV directly.

Does anyone know a workaround?

I have found a site called TV Unlock - has anyone used it or heard of it before?

www.tvunlocked.com

It costs £15 but is worth it as long as it works as that is the cost every two nights for me at the moment on renting and buying though iTunes!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Try unotelly.com

I've used the service since March and I can access Netflix, Hulu, US tv stations with no problem. Can't live without my Netflix!

I see theres a monthly subscription involved with that one. Which package are you on and is it NF UK that you have?

I'm still considering the site I posted in my first post as thats a one off fee which i'd rather pay for.

Do you have to set up a VPN also?

I think I had free trial in the beginning, and it works well so I decided to keep it. The price I paid was 49$. I'm not very tech/computer savvy and I just followed the online instructions. Takes less than 10 minutes to set up. I'm not sure what vpn is? Sorry...

49$ was for one year subscription.

$49 is not bad. Yes i'm not that computer savvy either therefore when I was reading some threads which linked me to some websites there was a lot of talk about "VPNs" and it just started to get very complicated therefore I don't want to go down that road.

Im gonna give tvunlocked.com a try and will see how they are. £15 (£20 for ATV) isn't bad for lifetime membership and its not much to loose even if it doesn't work out the way I want it to.

Thanks for you help nonetheless

Unfortunately you'll probably have to use a VPN in the end. Just make sure your Apple TV can access it directly. Not so simple without "hacking" it and the ATV3 as of yet can't be hacked. You'll need a VPN router or something similar. Google and you'll find some suggestions.

What a coincidence, I was looking for the same information this afternoon! Want to be able to watch it on my smart tv.

Even though VPN sounds complicated, and can be, many VPN services offer good wiki/FAQ pages to help you get set up. It's much less difficult than it used to be.

Tunnelbear. Simple and reliable.

Just to update you guys, I went for the plunge and it was so worthwhile.

I went for the AT3 and PC Netflix options with www.tvunlocked.com and they basically got back to me in about 1.5 hours with instructions of how to get it working on both my AT3 and PC and it took literally 5 minutes to set up. I didn't need to get no VPN changes at all, it was literally change a few numbers in my settings to their server or something and now I am so happy I have access to my Netflix here!!

Overplay is a great choice.

Yep, can't find anything bad to say about Overplay's SmartDNS. We have been using it for a little over a year now to access a US Netflix account, plus a number of other IP blocked sites like Hulu and the BBC iPlayer. It's simple to set up on your router and then all devices in your home work. For me this included the Google TV for Netflix and the Sonos for playing BBC commentary of football.

Another netflix question .. Credit Cards..

I'm fine with proxies and VPNs and all that jazz.

But once you get netflix to believe you are in the USA.Will it actually accept your swiss credit card ok??

Do you need to give it a US address with zip code 90210 (oldies might remember that

Various other sites suggest you just make up an address .. Any swiss experience?

Look into Hola Unblocker extension for Firefox or Chrome. It'll let you access Netflix through your browser without the need for VPN.

Also, it has accepted my Swiss credit card just fine. e.g. If you're in Gstaad 3780, just another 0 at the end. Et Voilà.

Good thing about this extension is that you can change your country so you can access Netflix Canada and UK.

I would be honestly surprised if that works; the company needs (or should need) an accurate billing address for payment as the CC company will (or should) ask for it for verification so as to prevent "carding". If Netflix doesn't, I'm pretty sure they're violating some PCI-DSS/Regulatory laws. That said, I'm just getting into the legal/business side of things in my new gig, so someone may be able to keep me honest.

The answer is: www.unblock-us.com

first week is free then only 5 Dollars a month and you can cancel anytime--I use it with by UK netflix account all the time.

Enjoy!!

Interesting thread !!

I've been using Netflix UK, after subscribing to StrongVPN.com. I also followed their (quite techie) instructions to re-flash my router, so now anything connected to this router, via Wifi or directly, thinks it's in the UK.

It worked a treat with my PS3, laptop, iPad, etc.

But, this week, I bought myself a new Panasonic Blu-Ray + PVR, but being a Swiss model, it doesn't come with the Netflix/LoveFilm apps.

Any suggestions on how to get around this...?

Not sure, but it worked just fine for me. It also worked for my colleague that lives in Germany.

Maybe because it's only 7.99 USD/month so the security is not as tight?

HTPC? Have you googled for any drop-ins/workarounds that you can do for your model? If that doesn't work, you may be limited to some sort of PC/Wii/PS/etc that's connected to your wireless router.

Also, do keep in mind that VPNs can eat into bandwidth; anything you do will be encapsulated and, if you're on a low-speed connection, you'll certainly feel the pinch. High-speed, not so much.
