I have a UK Apple TV 3 here with me in Switzerland. All working fine for most parts however I have had enough of paying up to £9.99 per movie on iTunes (UK account). I have a UK Netflix account that I pay £5.99 per month whenever I am in the UK and can stream as many movies and documentaries as I want all month through my ATV and also via my computer.
I know there are ways around getting NF to work in Switzerland however I don't want the headache of all the VPN things that need to be changed that I have read in other threads. Would be nice to get up and running here with my NF through my ATV or even my computer so I can stream it to my TV directly.
Does anyone know a workaround?
I have found a site called TV Unlock - has anyone used it or heard of it before?
I think I had free trial in the beginning, and it works well so I decided to keep it. The price I paid was 49$. I'm not very tech/computer savvy and I just followed the online instructions. Takes less than 10 minutes to set up. I'm not sure what vpn is? Sorry...
$49 is not bad. Yes i'm not that computer savvy either therefore when I was reading some threads which linked me to some websites there was a lot of talk about "VPNs" and it just started to get very complicated therefore I don't want to go down that road.
Im gonna give tvunlocked.com a try and will see how they are. £15 (£20 for ATV) isn't bad for lifetime membership and its not much to loose even if it doesn't work out the way I want it to.
Unfortunately you'll probably have to use a VPN in the end. Just make sure your Apple TV can access it directly. Not so simple without "hacking" it and the ATV3 as of yet can't be hacked. You'll need a VPN router or something similar. Google and you'll find some suggestions.
Even though VPN sounds complicated, and can be, many VPN services offer good wiki/FAQ pages to help you get set up. It's much less difficult than it used to be.
Just to update you guys, I went for the plunge and it was so worthwhile.
I went for the AT3 and PC Netflix options with www.tvunlocked.com and they basically got back to me in about 1.5 hours with instructions of how to get it working on both my AT3 and PC and it took literally 5 minutes to set up. I didn't need to get no VPN changes at all, it was literally change a few numbers in my settings to their server or something and now I am so happy I have access to my Netflix here!!
Yep, can't find anything bad to say about Overplay's SmartDNS. We have been using it for a little over a year now to access a US Netflix account, plus a number of other IP blocked sites like Hulu and the BBC iPlayer. It's simple to set up on your router and then all devices in your home work. For me this included the Google TV for Netflix and the Sonos for playing BBC commentary of football.
I would be honestly surprised if that works; the company needs (or should need) an accurate billing address for payment as the CC company will (or should) ask for it for verification so as to prevent "carding". If Netflix doesn't, I'm pretty sure they're violating some PCI-DSS/Regulatory laws. That said, I'm just getting into the legal/business side of things in my new gig, so someone may be able to keep me honest.
I've been using Netflix UK, after subscribing to StrongVPN.com. I also followed their (quite techie) instructions to re-flash my router, so now anything connected to this router, via Wifi or directly, thinks it's in the UK.
It worked a treat with my PS3, laptop, iPad, etc.
But, this week, I bought myself a new Panasonic Blu-Ray + PVR, but being a Swiss model, it doesn't come with the Netflix/LoveFilm apps.
HTPC? Have you googled for any drop-ins/workarounds that you can do for your model? If that doesn't work, you may be limited to some sort of PC/Wii/PS/etc that's connected to your wireless router.
Also, do keep in mind that VPNs can eat into bandwidth; anything you do will be encapsulated and, if you're on a low-speed connection, you'll certainly feel the pinch. High-speed, not so much.
