My name's Cynthia, I just moved to Neuchâtel from France (I'm originally from California) to study a Masters at the UNINE but I still haven't gotten the news of whether I've been accepted or not
So, aside from being on pins and needles, I'm also apartment hunting, doing a lot of walking in town, and that's about it. I studied art, so I'm really looking forward to visiting the many museums in the city... I'm also wondering if there's a good independent cinema in the area?
What else can I say? Hope to be meeting you all soon!
Most movies in Neuchatel at VF, which means they are in French. If you are not aversed to an adventure then lausanne has a lot of cinemas and is only 40 mins by train and the Westside shopping centre in Bern also has a cinema. They both regularly show movies in English.
Having free access to lots of English movies in Neuch is definitely a negative
It's a nice place and you are almost guarenteed to find some English speakers there. It can get very busy when there is a football (read soccer) match on.
ha ha..! Im used to LA as opposed to la.... Since youre in the French area I figured your name was French for "The Export"
Well there is the SBB that can take you to the more populous areas. Fribourg is a bit of a college town with lots of young adults. But a day trip to Zurich might fix boredom as well? Thats right, when ever we Americans go to a new country everyone else is a tourist, not us....
Hi Cynthia, welcome to Neuchatel my home town. I lived most of my adult life in the UK, but am now back in the region now retired, with my Brith OH. We live up in the mountains near the French border, but often come to Neuch. So if I can be of any help or advice, don't hesitate to ask.
If you fancy a visit to the mountains and a chat, come up (train then I'll pick you up).
We were in Neuch Monday evening and the place was teeming, music everywhere and everybody sitting out on café terrasses, so I'm surprised you say it is empty! Bonne chance with everything.
Thanks for the offer, I will certainly keep it in mind!
As for the town being empty, I guess I meant that most of the residents are on vacation, it's true about the cafes being pretty lively, and I do go from time to time, but somehow it felt like more of a tourist crowd, maybe I'm jumping to conclusions? Anyway, I'm happy to be here in your lovely hometown. Take care!
hee hee I didn't think of that!
I'm totally in agreement, however I do know how to spot a tourist, seeing as I spent 3 years studying in...Paris!
Right! They're from that country where everyone wears cargo shorts and tevas (even when it rains) and carries phone book-sized guide books
In Paris I was in a pretty lenient art program, so I mainly did video projects and posted stuff on You Tube. So, that would be your cue to taunt me and say I'm not really an artist.
Ah! Thats you who posts all those things that Sony and Werner Music claim is pirated....! Good on ya...
You havent seen bad tourists until youve lived in San Francisco.... You can spot them a mile away because they wear shorts in the summer and ask if we are in a cold spell...... San Fran is helplessly cold and rainy 10 months out of the year. Tourists just figure because its in CA its Sunny and Warm.
Welcome! I've been in CH for 10 yrs, 8 in NE. It is a great city however quieter than LA I had a bit of an adjustement when I moved from Toronto but I'm using to the quieter life now!
