'Neuritis Vestibularis'

Does anyone know about "Neuritis Vestibularis" ? Thanks.

I hope you're not suffering from it.

The most important point is to see a neurologist as soon as possible as to determine whether it's Neuritis Vestibularis or whether person had a stroke.

Take care

I wish it's me instead of my child. If you know something about it or experienced it before, please let me know. Thanks.

My kids suffered from Otitis Media when they were young, which is inflammation of the middle ear. What your kid has been diagnosed is inflammation of the inner ear.

Google is your friend: The Mayo Clinic is usually a good source of information.

Signs and symptoms of inflammation of your inner ear (acute vestibular neuritis) include the sudden onset of intense, constant vertigo that may persist for several days, along with nausea, vomiting and trouble with balance. These symptoms may be so severe that you have to stay in bed. When associated with sudden hearing loss, this condition is called labyrinthitis. Fortunately, vestibular neuritis generally subsides and clears up on its own. But, early medical treatment and vestibular rehabilitation therapy can be helpful in speeding recovery.

I'm sorry to hear about your little one. Hope he/she feels better quickly.

There are exercises that may be carried out (rather impressive) to balance the inner ear, if it is Neuritis Vestibularis. The results are rather quick too.

These are done by the doctor in medical environment (office, clinic etc).

Nevertheless a visit to a neuro-paediatrician would be a good idea too, that way you've covered all possibilities.

Could this thread be moved to Family / Health please ?

It's better to collect medical threads in the same place for future searches.

It was moved from Family/Health because it is in no way related to Switzerland.

Thanks for the help of you guys above. It's really a terrible sudden attack, fortunately my child is discharged but has to take lots of exercises to learn walking, and standing again. Hope it won't take long time to walk normally.

I am curious, because of how much (changing) elevation affects my inner ears, whether the doctors have advised to stay home / be careful traveling around Switzerland and / or maybe avoiding air travel all together?

Yes but the moment anybody mentions a good hospital or doctor or where to get help it become related to Switzerland.

It would be really helpful if the rules could be changed for medical threads to keep them all in the same place.

Please ??

Really..... it's necessary when looking for info or when trying to help people.

If only the medical ones.

I just did a search for "Neuritis Vestibularis" and this thread came up, so it is searchable where it is.

Or are you suggesting people just scroll though all the Family/Health posts in case they come across something?

The rules are clear. Although there is no sticky directly in this forum, there is in Education, which was split from here.

Read This - About Posting in the Education Forum

If you wish to discuss further, please can you use one of the existing threads in Forum Support.

No, she is suggesting that people would do a search in the Family/Health section directly which is what I would do first when looking for medical info whether it was related to Switzerland or not.

Exactly !!

Dear Mods, could we keep all medical threads in the same place please ?

Thanks so much

Sorry OP for using this thread.

How old is your child? Was he/she kept in hospital? I find it a bit worrying that you ask a question here because I think the doctor treating your child should have explained to you what you needed to know about your child's condition and particularly the recovery period.

The holiday season is, in my experience, the worst time to fall ill. Often one's regular doctor is not available, so one visits an emergency department which is already coping with too many patients.

I hope your child makes a full recovery.
