The days of simply turning on and tuning in are almost gone. Pity. Big brother will now know what we are watching and hearing.
Not only radio. ALL BBC satellite channels: TV and radio on 10773 H, 10788 V, 10818 V, 10847 V, 11023 H as well as all ITV channels, the “4”, “5” and “U-” Quest channels and others on various transponders are now on the narrower “UK” beam.

I use the BBC Sounds app (on iPad) without any problems at all. I use ExpressVPN and had to delete the BBC Sounds app after the recent geo restrictions. Downloaded ExpressVPN, set it to UK, re-downloaded BBC Sounds. Works perfectly.

I may yet go down the VPN route - though I would prefer that any money I paid actually went to the BBC to fund programming.
At the moment I’m quite liking the retro-feel 1980s of BBC Radio 4 on Spotifiy listening to Swiss tobacco commercials.

This has been the case for a long while now - since 2014 in fact when the current series of Astra 2 satellites were launched. The radio stations were originally on the wide beam, seems this has now changed.
Medium term I wouldn’t be unduely surprised to see satellite broadcasting in general (Radio and TV) decline. VPN is clearly the way forward.for us outside the UK.
I use Tune in Radio or if you dont want to pay a subscription you can use Radio UK - live player.
What annoys me most is that I can listen to UK radio on my sunrise subscription and i pay a licence fee in the UK but I cannot use sounds in CH
From now you should be free of those - seems the Beeb and Spotify are stopping them. as they contravene their own respective guidelines Apparently the legal prohibition only kicks in from 2027 though.

I lodged a complaint with Spotify but they never got back to me.
It wasn’t just the The BBC Global News Podcast which had the adverts, as the article suggests but lots of other programming too.
The Ploom adverts are back on BBC, on Spotify -notably within the Two Docs podcast on health issues.
The BBC had pulled them before because of complaints.
Vaping is incredibly bad for your health, pointless as a method for stopping a nicotine addiction and only better than smoking because smoking is probably the worst thing you can do to your body and so anything is going to rate better even if the thing that replaces it is bad too.
Advancing through the ads on a podcast is a sport. I couldn’t tell you what ads pop up on the podcasts I listen to because I’m a dab hand at jumping over them. Skillz…
