I saw this news and it feels like we’re living in the future now.
The first early trials were around 2004-5 IIRC but these involved a human with an implant sending signals to a machine, was called BrainGate. I remember reading about it because I’ve long had an interest after reading Neuromancer (book I read in the 90s as a teenager and stuck with me), that’s the future!
