I can't believe they charge so little, but it looks like a genuine business and they have turfed many football stadiums throughout Europe, including Stade de Suisse and the Letzigrund. Online reviews are excellent too.
Has anyone come across or used Profi-Rasen for their lawn? Most DIY stores and garden centres will quote around 20.-/sqm for turf. These guys charge max 4.99/sqm (for 220 sqm lawn) . This includes MwSt and delivery to your door, cooled and vacuum-sealed. When I consider what I'd have to pay for topsoil, fertiliser and grass-seed, this seems like a no-brainer.
We went down the seed route and paid the professional gardeners around 2000chf for around 500sqm of lawn.
That turf seems to come out not much more expensive and the advantage is that you get an instant lawn although from my experience of having turf laid when we lived in Germany you do have to water it a lot in the beginning just the same as with seed.
Precisely. For a ~200m2 lawn, it would cost under 1500.- for their premium turf (inc. 10% extra).
Don't underestimate the effort of preparing the ground to accept the turf. As you are probably aware, you can't just lay turf on clay and old builders' rubble and hope to get a bowling green like lawn. I looked at them the other day and also wondered about quality and service so would also be interested in any reviews.
They get good reviews on ' Trusted shops ' review website which seems legit (I have provided reviews here before).
Of course, the surface you need to prepare for a rolled lawn is almost the same as for an area you are going to seed so after all that hard work in preparation, you could just seed it.
Oh I'm fully aware of what might need to be done; I'm quite looking forward to it actually; it'll be my pet project .
I used profi-rasen last year and worked out perfectly. I can recommend them 100%. Delivered on-time as ordered. In spite of many telling me it would not work, I laid it directly over the "old" grass (with lots of weed) cut to the minimum and only very very little weed made it through. So unless you have an underlying problem, go with the turf in the sandwich method.
One thing to note: 220m2 will be a lot to lay in 24h so make sure you get help. After a full day, the rolled turf starts to go bad dramatically.

That's really good to know. How big is your lawn? The turf will probably sit in the underground garage after delivery (this is also the only access to our garden), so it will be in the cool and shade prior to laying. The builders will leave the garden levelled and compacted (if I recall the contract correctly), so I intend to remove any stones, roll, then rake in some fertiliser before laying the turf. The turfed area may actually be less than 220m2; that's a rough estimate based on the garden dimensions, but I have to subtract the terrace area (20m2) and whatever MrsG wants to use for planting. So it could be closer to 150m2.
I was actually thinking of paying some gypsies to tarmac it .
We went with seeding. I bought all the tools including the roller, which was much more difficult to use than I imagined because it is heavy.
One of the challenges with seeding is keeping the birds off.
I would go with the turf.
We went with seeding and it works very well. It is not about the grass it is about preparing the grounds. We have a lot of clay and I still regret not to have put more sand and turf into it. Be sure to get the weeds out (use poison) before and leave the grounds for a while to sink in. Put stroh on top to prevent the new grass from drying out
Hey, I did this job a few years ago with my garden in Belgium, I can't recall having to fertilize it though. Also, I would be careful as some type of fertilizers might actually cause "fertilizer burn" and/or damage the roots.
My advise would be just to rake the soil and roll out the grass, then excessively apply water few times a day until the roots have firmly attached to the soil (this should take 3-4 days only). You can easily check this by trying to lift the turf from the soil.

I would also like to know whether there's anywhere that does turf; in 21 years in Switzerland I've not found one yet. Our "lawn" is mostly weed, even though we've put down a load of seed in places. We need to scarify it anyway but with a dog and a cat, turf is a much more viable prospect than waiting weeks for seed to grow.
