I am pretty sure you don’t need planning permission to change your garden’s patio, but I wonder if the rules for a deck are any different.

A deck as a slightly elevated patio-type construction, I say elevated I mean 20cm off the ground, high enough to keep it reasonably dry.

If it’s‘ permanent’ you need permission,

Patio no, deck yes.

Ask your commune for definitive answer.
