New researcher to Bern

Hello all,

I'm a 36 year old US citizen (recently singled) currently living in the UK (Bristol) and have just accepted a 6-year post at the University of Bern where I'll be based just north of the city in Zollikofen. I do a lot of biking (road, XC, touring) and like to snowshoe so am looking forward to the Alps in my rear garden! I also am an amateur carpenter so would be looking for a place with a garage/cellar that I could do my work and be quiet, a concern which I've picked up from reading this forum and others. The forum has been really helpful - thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Hope you enjoy your time in Bern!

Thanks for the welcome,

I'm definitely nervous about finding housing and breaking through the Swiss exterior! I appreciate the invite as well though won't be arriving until March at the earliest - when I do arrive, I will be sure to come along.

Living in Bern is MUCH easier than Zurich or Geneva, and probably easier too than Basel. Relax and don't worry too much, there isn't the pressure on housing and transport here, which makes it a very nice place to live in.

On the negative side we only have about 67 cinema screens, not as many as Zurich, http://www.cineman.ch/en/showtimes/Bern/ but many films are shown with the English original sound track.

Apartments are easier to find as well, http://www.immoscout24.ch/IS24Web/_V...tal=13&index=3
