New Sky cards (for paying Sky viewers)

I got my cards a few weeks ago.

The message will appear more and more often until it occurs every few seconds after a couple of weeks. The message means that they have sent your new card out and the clock is ticking.

We use one of the UK address providers - they did charge to send out the new card. I thought the charge (150GBP) was a bit steep but then I guess that as the cards are linked to the existing cards there could be quite a bit of admin involved.

Anyhoo, the car arrived by Fedex and worked straight away so I'm reasonably impressed.

I think that GBP 150 is excessive to charge for a new card, especially when they get them for free, GBP50 ok for admin costs, but they are clearly racketeering and taking the p*ss.

Our sky account is registered at my in-laws and we have a post redirected from their address to us here

So if the card is sent we should hopefully get it here but what is worrying me is the pairing of the card to the box - is this needed? can we just put the new card in or do we need to call them to activate and have the sky box plugged in etc..?

anyone know?

According to the instructions that were on Sky, you can just put it in but, make sure that the box was left on for 24 hours before doing so.

In our case, took out the old card, put in the new and that was it.

great panic over - I had started worrying about it getting complicated with having to pair card and box etc.. etc.. just hope it arrives via mail redirection before it goes off!

Sounds like I am not the only one who has not received the new card yet then.

Was getting worried and was thinking of calling SKY.

As I mentioned in a previous post, last time it took them almost a year to complete the change. They've now got something like 10 million subscribers so it's not going to be fast !

I’ve just spoken to a relative in the UK and he was concerned because he has not received a new card. He phoned Sky about this and was informed that the process will probably take another 6 months to complete.

If you don't get the message 'Please insert your new card' I wouldn't worry. The last roll out took one year. It is in skys interest to roll it out slowly to cover the costs, rather than take one hit.

We saw this back in March/April and immediately panicked, as yet no card has been sent to our UK address (luckilly we are renting the house and the tennant has been keeping the post for us). I also asked several friends/family who have Sky back in the UK and they have not received theres so don't panic people.

Forgot to add - we had a message when the card was sent out as in "Your new card has been sent" prior to the "insert your new card" messages which started 2 weeks later.

For the past 3 days I have been getting the message pop up on the screen every minute continuously - no way can watch anything on TV

Apparently the more frequent the message means that the card has been sent out - I hope it arrives by mail re direct pretty soon.

Is anyone else having the same problem? - I am concerned that it is doing this every minute because we should have received it by now therefore it has either got lost or hasn't come with the diverted mail

Has anyone received their card via Royal Mail redirection service yet? I'm concerned that Sky might send out the cards with DO NOT FORWARD on the envelope. We still have mail redirection (3rd year now), but haven't received a new card yet.

Might be time to change our address to a friend's address in the UK and use our Vonage phone number with Sky...

we have had our forwarding service for over 3 years too - luckily my in-laws are arriving on Wednesday so if they have received it they will hopefully bring it with them - until then I'll just have to put up with the annoying message every 30 seconds now!

this is getting really annoying isn't it! We get the message every 30 seconds too, we have contacted the people we go through here repeatedly as Sky has said you only get the message once the card has been posted, but we aren't getting any response.

gggrrrhhh - has anyone got their card through their swiss agent yet?

found out ours for some reason went to my in-laws and didn't get to us via postal re direct - luckily in-laws arrive tonight hopefully with card in their possession as I am about to stick my foot through the TV in frustration
