Hi everyone, I’m new here and thought I would briefly introduce myself.
My name is Shirley, I’m in my thirties, originally from San Francisco and recently spending more time between London and the US for work. I’ll be in Switzerland for a while, and I’m hoping to get to know the country better and maybe meet a few people with similar interests along the way.
I enjoy hiking, coastal trips, photography, cooking at home, and exploring local food markets. On quieter days, I love reading, practicing yoga, or simply discovering new cafés and peaceful corners of a city.
If there are any groups, events, or hobby communities you’d recommend especially for adults 35+ or 40+ I’d be very grateful for your suggestions.
And of course, if anyone here enjoys casual meetups like a coffee, a walk, a museum visit, or a food-related event, feel free to reach out.
Looking forward to learning from all of you and getting to know Switzerland better.
Warm regards,
Yes, it also triggered my spidey senses too. But I allowed it to give benefit of the doubt.
For those unaware, there is a whole category of scams known as Romance scams where the scammer befriends the victim and gains their trust to later steal their money. This is massive and I am staggered by the amounts of money that people will send to someone they never met in person. There were cases of entire life-savings/pensions sent >$400,000. Making this very lucrative and so encouraging more scammers.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up too. Some people have lost a million on these scams, mostly run out of Lagos cafes, where the “workers” all get together every day and compete with each other to dupe as many folks as possible. Unfortunately AI has given them an advantage they never had before: It corrects their awful grammar and stilted writing. They used to send emails saying, “Good Morning dear, my name is Roger Goodwood and I have a wonderful opportunty (sic) for you!”
Yup, it is such big business that mafia got involved and it became cross border crime as the mafia bribed officials in some countries to keep their scams running. Recently Chinese mafia were arrested in Myanmar and sentenced to death by Chinese authorities.
The mafia was brutal, and captured mainly Chinese victims as slaves who were forced to carry out scams and were tortured and killed if they didn’t comply.
Don’t forget our well thought of mods are all volunteers doing what they do for absolutely nothing. I’d be surprised if anyone didn’t see a potential problem with the OP.
