News about institutional data leaks and hackers

Hi everyone, new thread.

There’s another thread about scam attempts aimed at individuals, here: 419 Scam of the Day [Email Scams, Phishing, etc.]

This one is about organizations getting into trouble. This time, the software supplier of Publica ( the government pension fund) reported a “cyber attack”.

Publica is one of the largest pension funds in Switzerland. At the end of 2025, it counted around 70’000 active insured persons and 41’600 pension recipients; the balance sheet total was just under 45 billion Swiss francs.

The TA editor captures the feeling of Schadenfreude among the general population with this headline (article in German):

(pension) fund Publica is affected by cyberattack - Wages of thousands of federal officials could become public

I’m listening in my head to the lawyer at my job talking about indirect damages and professional liability. Switzerland is the land of small companies, and SME paradise. But, what happens when the job is beyond the ability of an SME?
