NIGHTLIFE? Cool Hip Bars in Zurich (20-30's age people?)

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone here (under 40) can recommend some cool, unique bars or clubs around Zurich? I have some friends visiting soon from NYC and want to show them that there is actually Nightlife here!!

-- Bars that are not "posh" - that have character, perhaps some great music (NO Techo/Rave stuff pleaaaaassse)

-- Clubs with 80's or Brit Pop music night or even Salsa dancing??

-- Live indie rock bands

-- Funky decor (more "rough around the edges")

-- Good for peoplewatching

THANK YOU!!!!

LOL you sound like a 40 year old desperately trying to be young

Welcome. Just go on a pub crawl and let the night play out. Plenty of decent English type pubs in ZH to get you warmed up before hitting the clubs.

And Why do you care????

I asked a simple question. Your response was really rude dude. Lighten up.

dude, like, chill

i dont know of any cool bars that dont play techno... die sonne bar has an interesting live band

Start with a bar crawl around Niederdorf (old town) and check out bars like:

-Cabaret Voltaire (Niederdorf)

-Eddies Weinstube (Niederdorf)

-El Lokal (near to Sihlpost, Google location)

Then for the next night, check out Langstrasse, and bars/clubs like:

-Gonzos

-Zukunft

etc etc...

Zürich has nightlife, but most are not the style you seem to like. The Swiss like dance music, and you aren't really going to find many clubs playing 80's or Britpop like you would in London etc.

Try this then visit the websites for schedules, its not a definitive list, there are lots more.

Or look in 20 Minutes on a Friday for the weekend events.

There are lots of bars and Clubs around Langstrasse and Hardbrücke with DJs. Everything from Hip Hop to Electronic and Indie and Britpop etc. Cant tell you of any specific nights as I usually just find out on the day, but there are regular nights too.

Have fun

People over 40 apparently can't have fun.

Cool Bars are in abundance here, but it'll cost you if you are buying rounds. I would recommend these ones

Les Halle

Stall 6

Clouds, the highest bar in Zürich (physically at least)

Bagatelle

Rote Fabrik

El Lokal

Rimini, on the river Sihl

Hafenkneipe

Schiffbau, has a bar on top

this is seasonal but should have winter bar: http://www.fraugerold.ch/

People in Hiroshima 1945 would probably disagree with you

Edi's Weinstube for inexpensive wine and a laid-back atmosphere for chatting.

Paddy Reilly's on a Friday/Saturday night- usually charts music and a lot of people chatting and dancing.

Clouds at the Prime Tower, if you want to try some unique cocktails and enjoy a great view of the city. Jules Verne bar is nice for this also...

Barflyz in Enge is another nice place for a chat, with good prices.

Meyers in Wiedikon is open late, and a fun dive bar.

Old Crow has a nice atmosphere and an excellent beverage selection.

Purpur and Carlton are both nice, but a little pricey for what you get (esp Carlton with their Tuesday afterwork ripoff).

I've been in Mascotte, and a few other paid-entry clubs, and they generally get too crowded for me... I only go if there's a special reason, or I can get in free.

You are mean Rich, he'd waste all evening trying to find El Lokal on the Niederdorf

Why don't you just take them to the bars you go to and know?

Otherwise you'll be standing there looking like a bit of a fool when they ask "Where are the toilets in this place?"

Hehe oops... close enough.

This post wins

In addition, I would recommend El Toro Bar in Langstrasse for nice and varied Latin music.

If you like gin tonic -> DANTE (more info )

It's a nice bar with really good gin, close to langstrasse. Not sure if this is what you are looking for...

Les Halle - ok

Stall 6 - pretty boring and rarely busy. Awful for people watching.

Clouds, the highest bar in Zürich (physically at least) - Posh. Not even slightly what OP describes he is looking for.

Bagatelle - scummy dive, plays mostly pop and dance music

Rote Fabrik - average and overrated place, quite far from anywhere else, and very crappy service. Much better in Summer

El Lokal - good, as suggested

Rimini, on the river Sihl - not even open now... so pointless suggestion

Hafenkneipe - Nothing special, but has live music occasionally...

Schiffbau, has a bar on top - average, and layout not good for people watching

this is seasonal but should have winter bar: http://www.fraugerold.ch/ - Summer place

There are plenty of fun bars in the langstasse area

Bar 3000 (small but trendy)

Mata Hari (fun tiki bar)

Ole Ole Ole (bring coins for the Juke Box!)

Acapulco (karaoke every Sunday)

Casablanca (quieter vibe)

George not off langstrasse but also not too far (retro rooftop bar)

Happy exploring!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!!!! I've pasted them all in one place so far, so easier to access:

Try usgang.ch or tillate.com for listings
