I have checked the pinned threads but can't seem to find a mention if it's possible to receive satellite reception of Nilesat, and what's the equipment needed etc?
Any fellow Egyptians/Arabs have successfully done it?
I don't have this sat myself but I have an interest in such things. It seems folks in the uk can do it so it should be possible here as well. The dish size will need to be 1m + it seems. There is a shop in Baar which is quite good maybe they can help you out
I think it'll be almost impossible to get a permission to install such huge dish in a balcony :/ but thanks for the info and store link. I am planing to install it in a new apartment in April and will come back and update the thread
with a dish size less than 180cm you will not receive anything at all. The footprint of the satellite shows very week signal-to-noise ratio in Europe.
And even if you manage to receive something (with perfect antenna alignment and weather condition), you will only receive the strongest few transponder frequencies (meaning that most of the packages that you wanna watch will not be there).
If you really wanna watch the nilesat channels, I recommend that you look into one of those IPTV boxes that are being sold.
I have a dish and am picking up nilesat. The reception is very good except when it rains really hard. My dish is 1m and I am using a regular humax receiver. I receive all the mbc channels, fox movies, paramount etc.
I use filmon.com both here in Egypt and when I am travelling in Switzerland, UK and Germany. If the speed is constantly over 2 mbps then it seems to work well. There is also an app for Ipad / Iphone. Has a wide range of UK/US and also some Arabic channels.
Thanks for your note, yes, I thought of that device also but decided I would like to have the ability of also getting other satellites (moving the dish) if and when need be plus as you mention the quality is higher with a Dish.
