Currently i am looking for a 4.5 flat at a reasonable distance to commute to LFZ, the French School in dübendorf. Places that can be comparable include Wallisellen and Stettbach.
Whilist Stettbach doesn't have much to offer- I prefer new apartment with international neighbors, washing machines inside of the flat, two toilets. I am now looking into Wallisellen. Considered that Wallisellen is not too far from the Zurich airport, I am a bit worry that the noise above the building could be a problem- well, not so much in winter cause windows will be closed most of the time, but in summer while everyone is enjoying the cool atmosphere and late sunset as well as BBQ with friends outside. I really don't want to limit my activities because of the noise.
Can anyone advise? Is there any people live in Wallisellen area who can tell me more about it, or suggest any other spots I might neglect?
I am a photographer, so sometimes i work from home on photo editing. I do require nice environment for home office
The property buildings are exactly next to the train station Wallisellen, just to the north of Industrialstrasse. People said if you get used to the flight noise, then the street car noise is more of a concern...But I don't know how much I can deal with it, before I move in.
Although I am a bad sleeper and have bat ́s ears, the train track noise doesn ́t bother me (cars would though!). At weekends the early morning flights did wake me up at first but now I sleep right through.
Just make sure it is a Minergie apartment, that will cancel out most of the noise.
Been living here for 7 years now and I like it here. Close to the airport, close to Zurich, good train connections (unless you want to go to Lucerne.....), enough shops.
I am currently living in Leimbach, the south of Zurich. There's a nice river(the sihl), and a hill/mountain just 3 mins away. I am also afraid moving to Wallisellen, where there's no nature at all. In fact, it still looks quite industrial to me- but all in all noise level is more of a matter to me. I guess i will eventually get over it, just don't know how long it takes, lol.
It also depends a lot on your building, IF it is a building from the sixties with not to thick simple double glass, or a modern building with triple layered glass is a huge difference.
And in Leimbach the only traffic noise I hear is from Schnaaggi-Schaaggi if I have windows open. (I live almost as far up as possible.)
We are at the other side of Wallisellen, near the Winterpark, and there are lots of open field walks, cycle paths and forest walks. You are never far from the forest no matter which side you live.. the walk over to Opfikon through the open fields/ path ways is very nice and you can get into the forest easily from there.
The plane noise doesn't bother us in the slightest as it is infrequent.
However, the two eejits who own loud motorbikes a few streets away..
So you were Leimbacher, and now a Wallisellener??? LOL.
I actually live in Silhbogen, the building right next to the hill and the river, with Migros and post office. The only thing is the train track right next on the other side of the flat. I didn't like it at first, but later on was kind of ok- I guess i just got used to it, off-peak time the train runs every 20 mins.
I know it's hard to compare these two locations as they are so different.
Wallisellener, huh, what makes you think such? (I actually had to look on the map where exactly that is), I live a "bit" higher up in the last complex on the Grossackerstrasse.
How about Dubendorf? Most of our neighbours have children at the French school and there is easy access to nature - Glatt and Greifensee.
We lived close to Stettbach when we first moved to Zurich, one of the main reasons for moving was the noise from planes, and its worse in areas of Wallisellen! Now we are about 5 minutes from the station by bus, but this makes all the difference in terms of noise.
I'd second Dübendorf, even with the approach sometimes being across our backyard (over Stettbach) the place is normally very quite. For public transport zone 121 is huge and can get you from the Greifensee to the airport, only a 10 minute cycle to Greifensee as well.
There is a 4.5 flat going on the top of my building at the moment, just renovated and the pictures show washing machines in the place.
