Hello - we live in Bulach Zurich and are having some problems with noisy neighbours who have loud outside parties until 5am in the morning and shout at us when we shout at them... what can we do.. will the police help?
They live in a block of flats directly opposite our house..
Whether police really could help or not or would do so is an open question. Basically, regulations would give you right but peoply are allowed to continue at "acceptable level" and this still is too load for comfort. Talk with them, and in case of .... try to participate in the party. If you tell them that you could not sleep during their party and so either had to call the police or had to be invited ... and who knows may find some people inside the crowd you might support an earlier end of the venue
Have you tried speaking to your neighbours in the cold light of day, when they are less likely to be drunk, and you are less likely to be angry?
Shouting matches are going to do nothing to solve the situation, and it probably won't help matters calling the police in before you've tried other means of calming them down.
What kind of people are these neighbours? Loud and harmless, or a bit scary looking? Do you speak German well enough to engage them in conversation? Would it be worth inviting a Swiss friend along to help you?
Remind me never to ask for advice about noisy neighbours, lest someone might inform me that they've got lovely neighbours, and then proceed to utterly derail the thread...
thanks for responses.. they are swiss german male students who get drunk every nite / maybe 20 year olds.. i dont speak german so mite be a problem to talk to them plus i dont think shouting until 4am every morning is acceptable.. especially when i need to work..
we will try the police route since they are immature idiots.. lol
plus i cant speak the language and have no swiss friends - better get me some
thanks for advice.. just thought there were rules in zurich re noise pollution..
had the same problems in Zurich with swissie twenty-something-boozing-cretins.
Asked politely to shout up (22:45). All I got in return were guffaws. This happened over a period of months with many police visits. They are quiet now.
