Hi everybody
I am new to this forum, and I hope that somebody can help. A bit of introduction first of all, my husband and I are Indians, right now in the UK, on a 3 year visa.
My husband is in the process of securing his B permit to work with a firm in Switzerland. The company is processing my application as well (dependent) simultaneously along with my husband's. They will be doing all the formalities.
They have asked for our marriage certificate for my application, and since we both got married in India, and are non-EU, I am wondering if we need our marriage certificate notarized and sealed from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well. The company hasn't asked for this, but just the original marriage certificate, so I am not sure if they are aware of the procedure or not.
Or is it different because we are applying from the UK?
The problem is, that I cant find a single document on the website which advises what exactly needs to be submitted for getting the dependent visa. Can anyone advise of the document checklist?
Would be most grateful if anyone can offer any help. I do know that notarization and all takes a long time, so I would like to start the process now, so that we don't waste anymore time.
Thanks in advance!
Hi
I recently moved from Brazil to CH. for my visa application I had to submitted a copy of my marriage certificate, translated to German, to my company - they also handled all the formalities. When I went to the Swiss embassy in Brazil they only requested my passport and a copy of the visa authorization.
Once I arrived in CH, I had to bring a copy of the marriage certificate and respective translation when registering in the city and appling for the permit.
I hope that helps.
Was your visa dependent as well? The reason I ask, is because you said that your company handled the visa formalities. In my case, it's my husband's company who is going to be handling everything.
When you say that you went to the Swiss Embassy in Brazil, you said that they asked you for the copy of the visa authorization. How did you get the visa before you applied for it?
What did you mean by that? How can you travel to Switzerland without having the permit approved already?
Thanks again.
My company handled my visa and for my family as well (my wife and son).
The application process should take around 6~8 weeks. Once my visa was approved, I got a letter issued by a Swiss immigration office (or similar government body) - which was sent to by my company. With such letter on hand I just had to go to the embassy and get the visa stamped in our passports.
However, this visa (in my case at least) is valid only for 3 months. With the registration in the city we will get the residence permit. Therefore, you will need to do the residence registration up to 14 days after your arrival in CH.
You’re confusing a visa with a permit. As a non-EU you will need to go to the Swiss embassy in the UK and apply for an entry visa to allow you to enter Switzerland, your husband will have to do the same. Visas won’t be issued until approval for the permit has been granted, but you don’t get the actual permit until you arrive in Switzerland. As mhfernandes says, there’s usually a 3 month window when you can move into Switzerland.
Get copies of any official documents, marriage and birth certificates translated into either French or German depending on which part of Switzerland you’re moving to.
