Non-EU switch from Student permit to Work permit

Hello everyone,

*I have seen similar posts here, but did not find any answers to my question.

I am a Non-EU student studying for a Master's degree in Switzerland.

And I would like to start working full time and probably drop out of the university.

Now I have a student permit.

The question:

If a company applies for work permit for me: will I jeopardize getting my student permit renewed later if my work permit gets rejected? I have 3 more years to finish my degree.

I already have my Master's degree in another field and 3 years of related experience, so I suppose I could be considered a skilled worker.

I am not certain about dropping out, but I would give more priority to a job.

Did anybody face this kind of situation? What was your outcome?

Any advice is welcomed.

Hi there,

I am a PhD student who actually just got my B Permit application declined. I wasn't even going to drop out, but rather do full-time work, and do my PhD on the side. The firm I was going to work for is one of the largest in Switzerland, and the salary was higher than 175K.

Three years of work experience means very little unless you are a nuclear phyiscist or something extremely niche. I would continue with the Master's and get a job afterwards, as it's much easier with Swiss degree.

And no, you won't jeopardize your student permit .
