Hi
A British friend who is officially resident in the Pays de Gex frontalier area has an offer of employment in Zurich. This person currently does not have a permit for Switzerland.
Company proposes to employ him as a frontalier.
Can he live in the Pays de Gex and go to work in Zurich during the week, returning at the weekend? I believe this is possible, as frontaliers can, as far as I know, live in any frontalier region. According to the ZH immigration office, he would need to live in the local frontalier zone around Zurich. I don't think this is correct.
Many thanks for your help.
Gez to Zurich as a frontalier is not workable, we all know that, therefore it is more than obvious your "friend" is trying to diddle the system.
Good luck with that.
PS. Frontaliers go home across the frontier...each night in theory
Hi
Frontaliers only have to return each week, not each night, as confirmed 2 minutes ago with the Groupment Transfrontalier Europeen (GTE). It's even written on the back of the G permit.
Further, a frontalier living in a frontalier zone can work in any canton (again written on the permit). The GTE confirmed that it is possible, but I'd like to hear from anyone in a similar situation.
Maybe, but then that person would spend the majority of the time in Kanton Zürich and afaik even a Wochengrenzgänger needs to have an official address in the Kanton that person works in.
Hi
The person would need to prove that they return each weekend (easy). Not sure if they need an "official" address in ZH or just a hotel address, to be clarified.
In this "weekly return home" case, the frontalier pays income tax in the canton of work, not in France, as described in the table in the following link (in French):
https://www.travailler-en-suisse.ch/...on-suisse.html
Have a look here for the tax side of things:
https://www.zh.ch/de/steuern-finanze...zstb-88-1.html
as you are classified then as a internationale Wochenaufenthalter
Quick update.
His G permit was approved as a "weekend frontalier", meaning staying in Zurich during the working week, and he'll be subject to income tax at source in Zurich.
