Normal Naturalisation and Personenstandsregister Paperwork

Hi all,

Apologies in advance if these answers are elsewhere in the forum; I am checking in parallel.

Three questions please in the meantime:

  1. What documentation is provided to me when requesting a Personenstandsregister? It was recommended to me that I get this as part of my application to make sure what I submit in my application matches my records in prior cantons (and current canton).
  2. Are my prior residency permits required as part of the application process? If so, what if I no longer have them since I turned them in each time?
  3. If I entered the first time with one passport, then changed to another, does it matter (do they check or “care”)? I ask because I entered with my UAE passport, then obtained my Canadian one and switched in the first year of my residency here.

  1. I think that when you will be requested to do the civil registration part you will be indicated what documents to provide. This involves things like birth certificates, marriage certificates, proofs of other citizenships… The documents vary depending on your native country and other countries you may be a citizen of… That’s what I understand

  2. The swiss authorities have a record of your previous permits. You can not be requested to provide expired documents. You will get to list all your previous residencies in Switzerland and they will match this with the official records

  3. In the grand scheme of things I don’t think it will matter, but you should spell this out clearly when requested to provide the history of residency in Switzerland. They do check and care. For normal naturalisation I think it’s the number of years that count, so you want to make sure they correctly add up all the years under all the passports. Make sure there is no break between the permits.
