Not enough time to renew the permit on time...what can happen?

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate any help on this. The B permit of my non EU husband expires at the end of this month. Due to various issues related to my health, I totally forgot to sign him up for a FIDE test earlier and now I got a date for 24/9. The results are announced though only after about a month after the exam is taken. That means that his permit will have expired before...

This is the only necessary document that he is missing...What can happen? Will he lose his permit, and thus his job? Can we ask for a "temporary" one until he receives his language certificate? Do you have any advice about how to deal with this issue?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

As a minimum I would ensure the paperwork is all filed asap.

If anybody asks questions you can then tell them that the paperwork is filed and that you are awaiting a decision.

If you are not anticipating travel outside of Switzerland it is highly unlikely anybody will be checking your permit anyway.

Thanks for your reply. All the paperwork cannot be filed

asap as the certificate in French is still missing...shall I make a partial hand out of all the rest of the documents to the Commune?

You are in a small village. Go to the greffe and talk to them. With Covid you may have to make an appointment but that won’t be difficult. They just want to know when visitors are coming by.

From gingins.ch:

Horaires

Greffe

Mardi de 9h00 à 11h30

Mercredi de 14h00 à 16h30

Jeudi de 9h00 à 11h30

Thanks! Actually we have moved to Nyon...indeed in the small village we had excellent relationships with the people at the administration. Do you suggest visiting Nyon? Any expériences from there?

File all the documents. Add a note about language test taken on XX.XX.2021, result expected month/2021.

They may stack your dossier on the "process pending" but at least you did what you could and it will be noted as such.

No sorry, I’m in a small village. But even when I was in Geneva I found it better to ask, rather than assume.

In some schools you can pay a 50 chf fee and get a closer exam date. Maybe this can help.

Go to your Gemeinde and explain to them your situation.

When I took my language exam many years ago, there was 1 guy in similar situation. Our exam was before expiry but results after. So he went to his Gemeinde and was given an extension upon proof that he is registered for the exam. Then with the exam center, he requested to have his results "expedited"... whatever that meant.

At least talk to them and explain why the missing document cannot be provided. Ask them to note down that you had that conversation.

It reflects badly on you if it looks as if you let the deadline pass without making an effort.

expedite: make (an action or process) happen sooner or be accomplished more quickly.
