Now I know that I am REALLY in Switzerland

Yesterday I arrived in Lausanne and on my first trip to the Coop (Boulvd. Grancy) I saw a posted sign which reassured me that I was truly in Switzerland:

A rough translation (with help from Odile, merci !!):

Note that I am in Lausanne, on the more relaxed side of the Röestigrabben

Denoncer = to denounce = to report

Welcome to Romandie... Must say I have never ever seen such a sign. I imagine they've had a specific problem there with dogs tied outside the shop for too long and made a nuisance of themselves.

We've had weeks a great weather, and you would arrive in the middle of a storm? Blue skies again up in Jura, but it was a good one

Say hello to lovely Evolène when you get there . If you see Madeleine and Patrick at 'La Grande Peur' B&B, give them my best wishes.

Heh.. just imagine what they'll do to the poor dogs on the Zurich side

By the way, have a nice trip! Your posts always put me to shame - you probably see more of Switzerland (the postcard variety) on your regular trips than me in a lifetime

Enjoy!

I was more worried about what would happen to their poor owners in Zurich ...

ever heard a swiss dog barking? me not. when I arrived I thought it's a dog-free country

Even dogs are aware about noise rules!

I have never seen any such "advert" in Zürich. But if "advised", police would check up and hand over to the Tierschutz. Those of the Tierschutz would check and in case relieve the owner of his duties -- and hand the dog over to a dog-home for new ownership

My neighbour's hogs don't complain when the dogs shower after 22h00

I think this rule is more applicable to people

In Basel dogs don' t bark, it took me 3 years to hear one. Surprising... And playgrounds are quiet too, even when children are there...

First time i travelled through Switzerland 20 years ago my impression was that even the trees grew straighter then elsewhere....

Non-barking dogs are preferred by the dog-breeders. Children know that they can do anything if they do it without noise. And trees in cities and city-parks are carefully cut right from the beginning (in Zürich the department for flowers and trees has some crews in action throughout the year for such things)
