Now this is a spider

And just look at all the little baby huntsmans.

Nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure

Not if you leave it on

Not when you have a happening place like mine they don't

I can't help but find those cute - I'm squeamish over the ones such as the one that TonyBhoy found, skinny, bald and scuttling everywhere, but these tarantula types are all fluffy and cute.

I now know why I never ever wanted to go to Australia, when I lived in NZ....those Huntsman spiders are just disgusting.

I have heard of stories about them, but never had the courage to look at a picture.

Now I must go fill my mind with happy things before going to sleep tonight

I think this old video of me and a friends pet spider is appropriate here

Holy Crap!!!

The video above...scheiße i cant even watch it!

I had one of those in my basement. It scared the hell out of me.

Ahh! Arachnus Deathicus, also known as "Boris"

Funny. I've not seen any really big house spiders this year.

I'm sure some of those giant spider videos are fakes.

I just did. Honestly compared to some of the pictures on this thread, those are nothing. Have a look its not painful.

I found that in my place a few weeks ago. It was waving its legs threateningly at me, it was scary.

You think huntsmans (huntsmen?) are scary?

Try THIS venomous Aussie killer!

A platypus? What it's gonna do, challenge your species until you're as confused as it?

Male platypuses have venomous spurs on their hind legs.

The venom is powerful enough to kill dogs and though it is not fatal to humans, it can cause pain so intense that the victim is debilitated for weeks.

Our hosts in Oz had a couple of them in their house and didn't want to get rid of them because they ate the other bugs. After initially wanting to sleep in a zip up body bag, I got used to the fact they might scuttle around in the night and weren't particularly interested in me.

Apparently they do bite (and have some whopping fangs) but you have to be unlucky if you have a reaction to it.

You big woos - what's the point of cruelty when you can just stick a glass over ti, slide a piece of card under and gently take it out to the garden!

And as said above, if you really really want to kill it- do it quickly and surely.

I was trying to find photos which showed the spiders that we tended to have at my mother's house in Florida, her back patio is hardly ever used by us, a fact which the spiders started taking early advantage.

By the time I moved in with her, the ceiling of the screen porch was covered with thick dusty webbing, of course with many many Southern House Spiders living in them. The more there were, the less we'd go out there so they definitely were winning.

(Success in finding photo, thanks "Bug Eric"!)

In the search though, I came across the site " Spiderzrule " which has quite a number of spider photos, including some that I think are actually kinda pretty. It seems that if you submit photos you take of spiders, the site operator can / will identify them for you.

Here is one of the pretty ones:

Anybody remember that old movie "phase 4"? although methinks that was about ants taking over the world.

Or "tarantula" "B" movies at their finest.
