Hello everyone. Got a question about bringing an Xbox. I know that Switzerland is on the PAL system and I have an Xbox that is NTSC. I am bring over my LED projector which I use for my Xbox, but I'm wondering if it worth it to bring it along or just sell it here and buy a PAL version over there. Any thoughts? I would love some feedback on this.
I thought the same thing you did. Projector and everything ha ha. So with the 360 the power supply wont work here and is VERY difficult to find the right power supply. You cant just get a 220 power supply, it will blow up your 360. Also the games from the USA are Region 1 format, the games here are Region 2 so IF you find the right power supply you will have to order all of your games from the states.
AS far as the projector i was lucky and mine would work on 220, check the back of it and see if it says 110/220 if so you're in good shape. But as for the 360 sell it, its not worth the hassle. Unless you like a $300 paper weight collecting dust in your office ha
good luck!
I figured as much. Do you know offhand if the kinect that I bought in the US will work with a European Xbox? Thanks for the advice.
So we did the same thing - bought the Kinect + Xbox 360 bundle last Christmas in the US and brought it to CH (the console prices were the same - US vs CH). We bought a Step up converter which you can buy from your neighborhood radio shack in the US (around $100). Just make sure you tell them what you intend to use it for.
Our main motivation for this was because we figured that everytime we went to the US we could buy games new or used for almost half the price for what we would pay in CH. Or we could have family ship the games to us.
As the earlier folks said... If you don't have a way to get your hands on US Region coded games every now and then, you should just save yourself the hassle and buy the European Xbox so that you can buy the games locally. But like I mentioned a new game in the US will cost about $50 and a new game in CH will cost around CHF 100 so you can do the math based on how frequently you buy new titles etc..
You should call Xbox support to answer your question about the US Kinect / EU Xbox Console compatibility.
I have been using my US xbox for years here. I also bought a step/up down transformer. the one I have is 500 watts and its been working fine. I think newer xboxs even use less wattage. I bought the Kinect here in CH and it works fine with my Xbox. I plug it into the regular outlet here, although if you have a newer xbox I think it can be powered just by USB? not sure about that though as my xbox is ancient.
as long as you are connecting it via an hd source (hdmi, component) pal ntsc shouldnt matter.
I buy games when I am back in the states. Also a site that ships them here for a reasonble price is http://www.planetaxel.com/
actually some games are region free and will work but its not always easy to find that out. its up to the publisher. most EA games are region locked and I have found rockstar games to be region free.
I also bought a PS3 here because those games are all region free and i can buy the games here or in the states...
as mentioned above games are much more expensive here...
Thanks so much for the replies. I really don't buy that many games since I mainly use the Xbox for sports games (new games come once a year). I know my family will come to visit and can stock me up. Looks like I just need a converter and I'm bringing it over.
