My employer allows me to work from home when necessary. But what happens if I would prefer to work from home in my home country outside Switzerland? Am I allowed?

If so, what is the maximum number of days I can work from home, but in my home country? Is it 180 days per year, or is it another number like 10 days per year?

Where can I find this information in the labor law?

Note: Sorry about the title that is incorrect. I would love to delete this thread but I can't find this option.

I would suspect that firstly this has to do with your employer's policy on home office.

Switzerland would only become concerned if you're spending more time abroad than not, meaning that you're de facto not living here.

Actually the party most concerned would be the foreign country that you would work from in this scenario, as it would very much like to collect tax and social contributions.

I would ask the employer before any extended stints

There's so much to take in here; having been on the other end of the stick:

- employer and clients: are there any specific data locatlisation requirements? Do your clients demand that data be accessed only in certain areas? Does your employers' security team have concerns/requirements?

- Personal - what happens when/if something breaks, gets lost or stolen? Had a situation recently where an employee had to take time off as there was no way for them to connect after losing some equipment (stolen abroad)

- Legal - what permit do you have? Most allow you to be out of the country 3-6 months at most.

- Tax - most countries will expect to tax you if you stay there for a period of time.

- Contractual - lots of my clients saw COVID working from home working quite well, and WFH becomes working from a cheaper location quite easily...

To get a Swiss salary and work from another country ( way cheaper ) would be the best option ever, but I think in most of the cases this is not possible -> but you can ask your employer about this.

I guess if you are not "region locked" ( meaning you need to access servers strictly from here ) or they permit certain types of VPN, you could try to enjoy the summer in a different country.

But I am sure you would not like to lose your current place here which you call "home" --> everyone knows it's a hassle to find a place --> so either if you could work from a different country you would still need to pay taxes and rent here --> which kinda makes it redundant.

Or , pay taxes and rent here and move to a country like Montenegro this summer and enjoy

Regarding worked hours : I don't see the issue here, you were hired to work X hours / day --> you work the same number of X , from where-ever
