Numerus Clausus

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to put this but has anyone here ever done the numerus clausus? Is it useful to take those numerus clausus prep classes? I plan on going to Uni zurich next year to take the medicine course, but almost everyone tells me to go to Scottland because accomodation is cheap there and the course will be in english. My german is b2 level and I heard that the course will be in german for only 2 years, is that true?

All other considerations aside, once your studies are finished, where do you plan on practicing medicine?

It would likely be wise - and certainly more efficient considering licensing or credential recognition - to do your studies in the country you intend to practice.

Have you looked into the requirements of Uni Zurich? I am not sure B2 level will be enough. I thought C1 was the minimum requirement for any courses.

I plan on practicing in Switzerland.

Yes I have looked into the requirements, my A-levels are sufficient and all that's left is the numerus clausus. I plan on taking intensive german courses for the next 6 months in germany, so I would be a c1 level by then hopefully.

To be able to take the test as a foreigner you need to have at least B permit and at least one of your parents needs C permit, unless they (you) are a Swiss national.

You need to register in February at the latest, next test will be in July 2015. My daughter went to the test this year on July 3rd.

I took the NC in 2013 and have just completed my first year of med school at UZH.

I don't think the prep courses are worth the money. There is plenty of material to practice that you can order online (The EMS in Germany and Austria is similar to the NC in Switzerland). The statistics say that people who take the courses don't get better results at the NC.

What I would recommend, however, is signing up for one of the "test runs" also offered by the same people offering the prep courses. To practice by yourself is totally different from actually doing the test under "real" time pressure and in full length. It helped me a lot to get an idea about what to expect at the actual test.

There is also plenty of info on the net about which parts of the test you can prepare the best and how. I would for example recommend you getting familiar with one of the mnemonics methods for the memory tests.

If you have any other questions, also about language etc. feel free to send me a PM. We could also meet up some time and have a chat.

I also still have all the material I studied with and would be willing to sell.

I am a swiss national, but my german is so-so >.>. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you so much for the info! The materials would be helpful as well~ Sent you a PM.

The University will want to see some evidence that your German is at a C1 level.

I'm a swiss national and I never had to produce any evidence about my German...

I suppose it depends on what you've listed as your mother tongue. I was asked to forward a some kind of document giving evidence of my German level.

I'll be taking a c1 german exam so if I pass they will give me a certificate. That would be fine right?

Perfect!
