Nursery / kindergarten teacher salary

Can someone enlighten me please on how much nursery teachers are or should be paid in Zurich? I tried the search button with no success

Thank you

you can use the comparis salary feature....

general ball-park would be 60K (5000 per month for a 42 hour week or thereabouts... but I am sure some are paid a lot less than this (4000 perhaps)...

Thank you! That doesn't sound much for Switzerland

I'd say, it's the salary you'll get in preschool, kindergarten teachers are paid more.

I worked in a jardin d'enfants (mornings only) near Lausanne and my pay was around 40,000 CHF with 4 weeks paid holiday a year. Don't know if that helps.

Be warned, it can be a nightmare getting permission to work in local childcare or education here due to the difficulty in proving that your qualifications are equivalent to Swiss qualifications.

There is also the language issue. I was working in a bilingual jardin d'enfants, and I was supposed to have B2 level in the local language so I could communicate with parents (even though my job was to speak English to the children).

To work in a local school, I was told by the EDK I would need C2 level in the local language.

I hope that's useful to you.

Thanks, that's really not a lot for the cost of living here. I taught in a primary school before and it was way better paid. I didn't know there was such a difference.

M

I supplemented my income by teaching English reading and writing to anglophone students and English as a Foreign Language to non-anglophone students in the late afternoons / early evenings. I could afford to do this 3 days a week and have the other 2 days as half days.

Thanks for the info! I am a waldorf early childhood teacher and will be looking for a position at a waldorf school soon. Hopefully the wage is sufficient for living in Switzerland?

You can check here all the salaries. Go to GRUNDLOHNTABELLEN on the right and check: http://www.vsa.zh.ch/internet/bi/vsa...en/Loehne.html

It will be around 60 - 65K.

Hope I could help

Thanks! In the end I negotiated more

I think you only need C2 if you teach a subject in a local language. To be a foreign language teacher, you still need only B2 of one of the local languages, it is mentioned at the EDK web.
