Nursing pillows for twins

Hi,

I am due to have twins in July and I was wondering if any of the mothers of twins out there could give me some advice on nursing pillows. I have seen that the long ones sold here are very expensive and I am not sure if they offer enough support to feed both babies at once. I have also found online that the EZ2nurse pillow seems popular (and even with shipping might be cheaper than buying a pillow here). What would you ladies recommend? Did you even use a nursing pillow? Another question I have is, how feasible is it to breastfeed 2 babies at once?

Any other general advice for caring for twins is also appreciated. Thanks very much in advance and sorry for cross-posting.

Did not have twins but I found the long pillows did indeed not offer enough support and for my second baby (due any time ) I have gotten a Boppy which is firm and more solid and stays put.

However, the "long and saoft" pillow is a god send for sleeping in pregnancy and can also be used to create a nest for the baby so could be worth buying both... maybe second hand?

Ciao

My SIL used a couple of 'elbow' or 'boomerang' pillows.

Something like this:

I used the biggest nursing pillow that I could buy from one of the baby shops here in Switzerland. I found it really handy whilst I was pregnant and also a great help when feeding the babies. I successfully breastfed my twins even though both had to also have some expressed milk bottle fed in the early days due to their sucking reflex not being ready.

I am more than happy to share my experiences with you if it is of help.

I found breastfeeding twins not to be too much different from feeding a single child. It does have its disadvantages in that I only fed at home unless I could feed the babies at separate times. Generally, I fed both babies at the same time as otherwise I felt that all I was doing was feeding. I can thoroughly recommend it.

In my case, due to the babies not wanting to feed, breastfeeding wasn't easy in the first few days but I persisted and it worked out just fine.

Feel free to pm me if you would like to talk further or if you would like my number in case you feel in need of some support after the birth.

All the best!

Hello and Congratulations!

I breast fed my twins successfully for 18 months and 22 months. I, also breast fed mainly at home and almost always both babies at the same time. In the night if one woke and needed to nurse, I would wake the other and nurse both at the same time. This also helped to regulate the diaper changing so I could treat them as one baby when it came to feeding and diaper changing. My son was 2 and a half when his twin sisters were born so I had to make time for him. Breast feeding went well in the beginning, but I recommend individual nursing for at least the first day to make sure the babies are latching on properly. Proper latch means less discomfort. I used a long natural body pillow I got in the USA. It was wide enough to hold both girls comfortably and it helped me to find a comfortable sleeping position before the twins were born. I was able to adjust the body pillow so that it was comfortable for me and the girls, and it was not too flat like some of the twin nursing pillows. I am tall with a long waist, so the nursing pillows were not the best fit for me. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need anything. I would love to help if I can.

Thanks for all the advice! It is really helpful. Thank you also for all the congratulations and offers of further support.

Hi

My twin boys are now 6mths old. My wife used the long pillow for breastfeeding and with the addition of some strategically placed pillows for extra support and a comfy sofa it all went well. Now at 6 mths and 7+ kg's the extra pillows are not needed. It is feasable to feed them both at the same time and in fact keeping their feed cycles in sync helps alot. There is no spare time anymore.

Congratulations and good luck

I have got a nearly four weeks old baby at home and during my pregnancy I bought a Theraline pillow for nursing and sleeping. It has got such a good quality and also my baby likes to have a nap on it. http://www.babyjoe.ch/shop/vendor/th...theraline%20ch

I bought it in the Uk but I saw you can buy it her in Switzerland. It is worth the money! I use it every day!

Hi there

I used the "Brest Friend" pillow . I got it from Germany on Ebay and it has helped me a lot with my twins. In any case I tend to breastfeed one and then the other, as they are quick suckers (it takes them only 10 minutes to finish) and I like to spend most of my time outdoors (tandem-feeding is a no-go for me). They got used to wait in line for their feedings and it worked out quite well.

Good luck...

I recommed you'd ask here , she's a twinmom herself, a birth doula and own a little online-bookshop specialized on twin-related brochures and books. I know her personally and you can write her in english. Good luck!

I loved the best friend twins BF pillow ( got mine @ baby walz)..I tandum feed my boys and not only was it comfortable to use..it was a real time saver!!!
