Hoi all,
I used to live in the CH and liked a salat called "Nussli".
I can't find anything about it on the net, am I spelling it wrong, or do I have a local name for it?
I do believe I had a packet of seeds once but can't find any info on this great green.
Any help please?
Ciao Y'all
"Nüssli" is very Swiss, so seed packs might have a German term instead, try "Mausohrsalat".
EDIT, seems to be another local term, only for my home :-)
The real thing is: Feldsalat ( Valerianella locusta )
It's spelled Nüsslisalat :

edit: strange, the umlaut (ü) messes up the google search link. just go to google and enter the correct spelling and you'll find lots on it
I believe in the UK it is called Lambs Leaf lettuce, but I have never seen it in the US.

Agreed - usually only available Saaaf of the Watford Gap or posh retailers and/or Waitrose

It's available in the US as Mache lettuce. I've seen it a few times in upscale grocery stores.
yup, in the US it's called Mache and available at any Whole Foods type store and even in regular grocery chains, usually in small boxes from Earthbound Farms.
It's a common plant that grows in vacant lots. It's generally viewed as a weed in the UK and the US.
I prefer rocket.
I just wish there was a decent source of watercress in CH...
Interesting fact: It is also called rapunzel , and this was the theft of this "lettuce" which caused quite a controversy between a certain witch and a childless couple once upon a time (sorry, can't find the 20minuten article right now)
Well Dang, I just knew I liked it. Didn't know it was SO good for you also.

Now I know it's name, thanks all.
All I need to find out now is if it's cruciferous.

I would love to hear the story of Rapunzel the salat. :C)
