NyQuil?!?!

Can I get NyQuil here? If I can, do I need a prescription? And does it go by another name here? I have no interest in seeing a doctor ( and I don't even have a doctor). I just want to take some NyQuil and ride out what ever this is.

If you don't know what NyQuil is, it is the night time, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever, knock you out so you can fight your cold unconscious, death green medicine.

Thank you

Ask at the pharmacy for Medinite , it is strong. Read the instructions first! No prescription necessary, costs about Fr 19,-- a bottle

Thank you SOOOOO much!

Nyquil works for me too - although since finding/using it I have repelled colds more effectively!!

Medinite works well - although for me, not quite as well.

Medinite and NyQuil are the same exact thing and the same brand and have the same active ingridients for caugh supression, antihistamine, and pain reliever/ fever reducer acetaminophen which in Europe is called paracetamol.

Additionally Medinite also contains pseudoephedrine which is a decongestant which makes Medinite the equivalent to the new NYQUIL SINEX

Hope you feel better! get well soon!

Personally, I always import a good stash when I'm ever back in North America. (although I usually by the brandless version from walmat etc.)

20 CHF for a small bottle! I'm stocking up my next trip to California.

Thank you for everyone's help.

I would compare MediNite to DAYQUIL, not NYQUIL, because it contains a stimulant (ephedrine sulfate).

I discovered this last night after taking it for a gnarly flu without reading the bottle, that there is a stimulant in MediNite which made me anxious and nervous. So I layed in bed for hours upon hours staring at the ceiling, wishing my sick body could just fall asleep for god's sake. It was awful.

The difference between DayQuil and NyQuil is that DayQuil has the stimulant and NyQuil does not; instead, it has a (sedating) antihistamine.

So to me, MediNite is analogous to 'DayQuil' with its stimulant.

And I have not found a NyQuil analog.

I, too, am stocking up on my next trip to California.

Don't combine with paracetamol. Or if you do, be sure that the paracetamol dose total doesn't exceed 1g.

1 dose Medinite contains: Paracetamol 600 mg Doxylamine 5.22 mg Ephedrine 6.17 mg Dextromethorphan 11 mg

1 dose Nytol contains Paracetamol 325mg Dextromethorphan 15mg Doxylamine succinate 6.25mg

1 dose Nytol Sinex contains Paracetamol 325 mg Doxylamine Succinate 6.25 mg Phenylephrine 5 mg

1 dose Dayquil contains Paracetamol 325 mg Dextromethorphan 10 mg Phenylephrine 5 mg

Remember - enjoy your drugs responsibly.

Give NeoCitran a try. Can get over the counter in any drug shop.

Neocitran also has phenylephrin.

As mentioned above, all these meds should be avoided or used with caution if you take any antidepressants or have anxiety or any other mood disorders....

The meds don't shorten your illness, they just mask the symptoms. You may feel temporarily better, but your body is still fighting the infection.

And please watch out for Influenza, Covid, Pneumonia - I have two swiss friends who are really unwell right now - one with covid, one with pneumonia (most likely influenza virus). If you have any breathing difficulties, see your doctor please!

Phenylephrine has been shown to be completely useless as an oral * medication. So all you're getting with most of those cold "medications" is very expensive paracetamol plus perhaps a bit of anti-histamine to make you sleepy.

*works fine when squirted directly into your nose but not when it passes through your digestive system

And don ́t take paracetamol if you have kidney trouble.

I agree, these drugs do nothing to shorten the duration of the illness but when I'm this sick I would pop one DayQuil every couple hours during the day so I can somewhat function; and then two NyQuils right when I go to bed, to minimize the sleep awfulness. I'm just not one of those people who can lay in bed all day, every day, for 6-7 days when they are sick, even though it's probably the best thing for me.

Thank you! Ha! My (Swiss) wife said the same thing and is currently en route to the apotheka to pick up some. She says the NeoCitran absolutely knocks her out, so perhaps this will become my NyQuil replacement, and I already have the MediNite to use for my DayQuil replacement.

COVID test was negative but this is day 6 of being sick. Not fun. Be careful out there!

And especially if you've got liver trouble.

...and never, ever if you've drunk alcohol!!

I wanted to post this. Even finding it in the USA will be more difficult in the future as some stores are planning to move it off the shelves.

Eventually less stores will carry it and presumably the price will rise since the scale factor is not as good for the manufacturing. (and leading to more stores removing it)

I like it since it helps me sleep deeply and I do feel better in the morning at times. How much of this is medicine and how much is it my body being able to self-heal due to good sleep is not clear.

I think you mean Vicks Sinex. The version is in the USA does not have pseudoephedrine. (which requires you now to present a drivers license)

I found on my last trip to CVS, very few medicines were available that have pseudoephedrine

The ingredient in NyQuil Liquicaps (and probably also the NyQuil syrup) that makes you sleep is an antihistamine called Doxylamine succinate -- 6.25 mg. Below are the ingredients in NyQuil. So if you can find a cold med here with that same antihistamine in it, or that same mix of ingredients or similar, then maybe that would have a very similar effect for you.

NyQuil Liquicaps:

Acetaminophen 325 mg Pain reliever/ fever reducer

Dextromethorphan HBr 15 mg Cough suppressant

Doxylamine succinate 6.25 mg Antihistamine

I think MediNite also has (or once had) a day/night version where half the pills in the box contain the stimulant and the other half doesn't. So the pills are marked as being either for day or for night. I think it was Medinite, at least, but I can't seem to remember. But yeah, I can't take any cold meds with a stimulant in it or I'll be unable to sleep that night. I remember taking some cold medicine like that years ago, that I had bought at the apotheke here, and I literally was up for 2-3 days because of it. It just didn't want to get out of my system.

Why?
