OASI Refunds [Federal Old-Age and Survivors’ Insurance]

Hi,

I've been led to believe that the OASI deductions made monthly may be reclaimable when exiting Switzerland and returning to UK.

Does anyone have any further information on this, or where to apply?

If anyone has successfully reclaimed, would they mind advising approximate % they received, and how long it took to process? Is 5% deducted monthly the norm (Zug Canton)? Thank you.

I got deducted 5.125% (Zurich) and would be really interested in knowing whether reclaiming this is possible.

The answer is: it depends.

I just started exploring the possibilities.

My Tax consultant provided me the following information.

According to the Swiss Compensation Office the refund procedure takes approx. 5 months and the amount to be reimbursed does not equal the total contributions paid, but is cut to the discounted expected entitlement for a future pension of a comparable Swiss resident. This might be considerably lower than the amount of contributions paid. Furthermore please be informed that the refund payments will also be made in favor of a foreign bank account abroad in case your Swiss account is already closed.
