Online shopping

Is there any Amazon/ebay equivalent online platform for shopping for Switzerland?

Hi JeevGE,

I would say the Swiss equivalents of Amazon and ebay are Galaxus and Ricardo , respectively.

But it's also possible for us to shop on Amazon.de (or Amazon.fr in your case) and have our goodies delivered to Switzerland. In cases where they don't ship to Switzerland, you can pick up your items from a parcel shop across the border.

Hence, I would always compare Swiss and foreign offers.

Anything specific you have in mind?

It really depends on what you want. There are good places to go for books and other places are better for electrical goods.

The problem I find with Amazon now is that they are so often an agent for smaller companies and when you eventually find your 4 Euro part that is unavailable in Switzerland, they either slap on a 50 Euro delivery charge or as 4rt wrote, refuse to deliver to Switzerland.

If you live near the border then you're okay.

Dunno. I ordered several times from Amazon .de and by now do they deduct the high German VAT automatically, declare the goods properly so I never had to pay silly "fees" from the handlers for finding out the value but just the duties which were due... all in all pretty smooth by now.

I use Amazon.de as well. I guess it depends on what and from whom you are buying.

Thanks for the info. all

I am generally looking an online platforms for my Christmas shopping so a marketplace with a broad array of options.

Also, thinking in terms of offers where sometimes shipping costs are waved off but are these offers for their respective regions (Ex. French address for amazon.fr)?

Depends on the shop, but I am not paying any shipping costs with Amazon Germany to Switzerland when ordering more than 30(?) EUR...

DeinDeal have a LOT of offers

Nice one...

may be not exactly what you are looking for, but if you look for a particular thing you can find both the best price and the sellers at http://www.toppreise.ch

To be precise, you're not paying any Amazon shipping costs for the delivery from Germany to Switzerland if:

at least one book is included in your package, or the gross value of your order exceeds 29 EUR I've covered that in my post .

Exactly; some do and some not - as described in the link 4rt posted.

Both Amazon.de and Amazon.fr are currently offering free shipping to Switzerland with a minimum order value of 49 Euro.

The offer ends 30 April 2016.

Thanks, topswit! I did some research on that.

Here is the summary of what Amazon.de says about free delivery .

For the shipping speed "Standardversand" (standard shipping: books, music, DVDs, video), shipping is free if: at least one book is included in your package, or the gross value of your order is at least 29 EUR

So what I wrote above is still valid.

On top of that, if you order your goods using the shipping speed "AmazonGlobal Schweiz" (much bigger choice of products) before April 30, 2016, shipping is free for purchases worth 49 EUR or more.

And here is what Amazon.fr says :

Shipping of books, CD, DVD, Blu-ray, video games or software to Switzerland is free if the gross order value is at least 25 EUR . If you order any other item before April 30, 2016, shipping is free for purchases worth at least 49 EUR .

I hope they're going to remove the expiration date of their offer.

As it turns out, there is a similar offer on Amazon.it .

I've found digitec and internet.ch to be really great marketplaces for some of my online shopping. Of course they have a more specific inventory to electronics, these of course would make great christmas gifts too

If you are looking for books, thalia.ch has been great for me too. Yes, even though they are a little more expensive then amazon would typically be. But at the time, for what I was looking for, the price was almost the same.

Good luck!

I usually buy online at Amazon.de and in local Swiss companies.

This year I found that the toys (specially Lego) are not really cheaper in Amazon.de than in CH although the new offer "AmazonGlobal Schweiz", where delivery is free from 49 EUR. So, I have ended up purchasing almost all of the XMas toys at Microspot and Coop.

It's still pretty useless. I added a couple of books to my basket but whatever non-book item I selected to add to my basket, I got the message - can not deliver to Switzerland.

So, my original complaint is still valid.

You can now view Amazon.de in English if you so desire.

The "I want to compete with Amazon"-marketplace from Coop and Swisscom.

I hope they get the irony:

Hosting the site that you hope competes with your competitor at your competitor.

Who came up with that idea?
