oops - someone bumped into my car....

Need some advice...

Someone bumped into the front left corner of my car when parked. Very low impact, just some rub marks and scratches, and the panel is slightly loose.

We have the details of the person who admitted their fault, and said they are fully insured.

However, the value of our car is probably under 2000chf....

the cost of full repair (estimated today with my local garage but not the one that the insurance may send me to) is 1500-2000... because it would involve replacing a panel including lights and I think might also involve taking the cover under the car off as well - which I know involves taking the wheels off....

And, for me, I don't really care - the car has plenty of bumps and scratches on it already....

To be honest, I could just polish it myself and be done with it (professional polish 400chf and most of the bumps and scratches would still be there as they are stone chips etc)....

AND to be honest, I am more worried that if the mechanics (especially an 'insurance job' company, start pulling the car apart, it may cause worse injury or they may find other things that 'need to be fixed'....

Car is probably 50/50 to pass next MFK (due any time soon) as it's a Diesel Seat Ibiza from 2008 and has just under 200,000 Kms on the dial....

So.....can I compromise with the owner, must I deal with the insurer and if so, what options do I have ?

Personally, I'd be happy with 200chf cash to pay myself to polish off the scratches and let it be... I cannot really see the purpose of claiming 2000chf from someone else's insurance, for a car that is only worth that much....

Do I have any other options ?

Do nothing?

Thank you - that link is perfect.

We are going to be in-between 'getting the cash' and 'the car is written off', and 'this is just too much hassle'....

Once someone crashed into my car, which was also old. They broke a small piece of plastic off the front wing. We agreed that he'd give me 50chf and we'd forget it. Then it turned out he didn't have 50chf cash😂. Eventually his 3 mates had a whip round and managed the 50 chf between them.

Let the insurer write it off, bank the cash and offer to buy the car back from them for 200 chuffs?

If they are fully insured, they pay nothing to repair your car. I was surprised too, but I paid nothing and no insurance increase the next year. My understanding was you can claim every 3 years with no deductable. Insurance will do a quote and not do any repairs beyond that. They did touch up some other scratches on our car in another area when repacing a door someone else ran into - so that was a bonus.

Do the lights need replacing? These would be more than $200.

They replaced a door and panel and didn't right off a car we were offered 2k for at trade in.

That's insurance fraud. A really bad idea.

Hail damage to cars is very unique ...leaves bumps but doesn't scratch the paint...so fraud is easily detected.

is it though?

That is of course fine. I was referring to the "hail damage trick".

I might be a bit slow today ( or in general ) but how is it any different?

My car has been written off as "totalled" due to hail damage. The insurance company was surprisingly generous. Of course, it really did get caught in a hail storm so no fraud was incurred.
