Opinions on my offer

Good morning forumers,

(I will try to generalise a few information to not doxx myself, I could clarify if needed)

I got an internship/working student offer, where the salary is not too good for Swiss standards (2400/month), and also the company is not in a sector where my field is. I would work at the department that's relevant to my studies/future goals but it's only a smaller department in the company and not it's main industry.

Normally I would not accept an offer and would keep looking, when I know other companies pay significantly more (same role, interns), however I am thinking of accepting the offer to have a Swiss job on my CV, which could boost my chances for future FT employment after graduating from my masters. I heard that if you are from certain part of the world it's harder to gain your first job here, even tho you have work experience in your home country.

Any advice/opinion is welcome!

Not sure if I understand: you say the payout for the internship is too high and then you say other companies pay more?

Hi, just do it.

In terms of salary, it's ~100-150 CHF less than internships at the company I work for. Of course, it can always be better, but no deal breaker. Anyway, it's easier to get a better job when you already have one. Considering it's only for a few months, waiting for a better contract only for 1 month yields less accumulated income for the internship period.

About sectors, fields and relevance of studies, those are mental boundaries. Skills like learning to defend you own interests within a chaotic organization,

managing other people, negotiation, or sales are useful no matter your "field".

About politics within a business organization...I work in a small team within a small department in a large engineering consulting company. It's a nice position because it's isolated from the crazy politics and backstabbing that happens at larger departments. We find customers, do the job, deliver profits, we get bonus and go home. It's like we did not exist because higher management is always busy with the people that cannot yield consistent profits. So, I'd say there's nothing wrong to be small and forgotten within an organization.

Apologies, I missed a not. It's not too good for Swiss standards.

Thank you! Good point, my overall pay might be less if I search for a few more months.

I assume Swiss work experience will just be valued more than my previous ones so can't lose with that.
