Orange CH name change - 23.04.2015

That's... wow. I am sorta in disbelief that hundreds of names were reportedly tested for months. I mean, Salt? Salt?

"To salt" your brand should become new business lingo for suddenly laming it up.

Certainly left a bad taste in my mouth

Short, international, easy to remember and presumably they could get hold of salt.ch. no worse than Orange, though I would have preferred Banana...

LOL - if you type salt into Google and you're in Switzerland then Swisscom comes right at the top.

Looks like Swisscom bought a Google ad word.

I doubt it'll last long, but canny move by Swisscom.

Anybody having issues after the name change? My iPad mini has no service since today, even if I manually select an operator.

Is this for any purpose other than massaging some marketing execs overinflated ego?

Lets hope is goes better than their system upgrade, which seemed to strip the user account of anything but the most basic functionality.

Well there is a new owner and they apparently lose the right to use Orange in 2016 (or so I think I read in this very thread ).

Yess, I can see my usage at long last, about bloody time.

the website is buggy, not transparent and very non user friendly. I have a tablet subscription that runs out in December. Needless to say...I wont reup

Actually, the "Orange" brand is owned by France Telecom, and since Orange Switzerland is not owned by France Telecom any longer, they don't have automatic rights to the name, so a name change was coming. For better or worse.

So tried to log into my Salt account with Orange username and password. Not accepted.

Tried to open a new account using my old account details. No dice. The password must contain capitals, lower case, numbers and some symbols. Mine old one didn't.

So tried opening a new account with my Orange username and a new password with the new stuff in. Bingo! My "new" account has all my original Orange details (address etc.) I wonder how many Orange customers will be on to customer service saying they can't access their account.

And my phone still shows it's on the Orange network, not Salt...

They've stuck a banner on each page of the website now and ruined the fab new look:

Important

If you have an existing Orange account, please sign up again to access your new online account.

The new corporate branding is absolute and total shite, monotonous black and white. I was in lausanne center this morning and saw Place St. Francois the new shop from the outside looks total crap. a 3 year old would have made a better job

I am not one to be negative generally. BUT GOD... SALT... visited the web site. It was slow buggy and stupidly designed. ALso this is exactly the same

as the orange webshite just with salt.green branding. Its horrid to use, the new tarrifs are exactly the same as the old ones. The prepay costs

are a complete joke.. 1f/day for 20mb (4g speeds) wow how generous. Sunrise does 1f/day 256k (unlimited data, not capped at 20mb) sheesh. One email

for me is sometimes 25mb with a pdf file.

This will go down and the WORST POSSIBLE rebranding I have ever seen.

All hype, all promises, then THUD... nothing. They did not even bother to

revamp the costs and tariffs for promotion. Overall Orange was bad value, and so so CS, (shambles last 6 months) I dont expect Salt to be any different.

I am sure they will panic about 3 months from now when their numbers churn away to other carriers. ..

SALT... your Just NUTS......

Would be interested to know what staff morale is like at the moment. Anyone work there... Or have a mate who does?

Nope, but if my workplace is anything to go by then those that are on the network formerly known as Orange are doing there damnedest to get out.

All have had problems logging into their accounts, and all have had spotty service since the switchover. Meanwhile us Swisscom people have been gloating at the former Orange users, and the Sunrise users have been gloating at both of us saying we pay too much - which is, all things considered, probably true.

I would imagine staff morale is pretty low - especially when you consider the website looks like it could have come out of the noughties and, quite frankly, looks like it was designed by your mates kid, 'cause he's good with computers int he.

My fruit-based account is up on 25.11 so sent notification today that I will not be renewing.

I am tempted by Cablecom's Mobile Super - as my main use is data rather than calls - and they offer 10GB for SFr49/month. Lack of 4G puts me off though.

Went into a ZH store today and inquired about a new phone as an existing Orange customer, regardless of the new branding.

I was offered a reasonable price for a decent phone, a way better contract than currently and after a bit of "make your pitch then say nothing" approach to negotiation received CHF100 off the cost of the phone.

The staff were nothing but courteous and helpful, despite a long day of rubber neckers testing their patience.

What pleased me is they didn't try to upsell; indeed, they down sold as it was right for my needs. Orange didn't / wouldn't do that, so a +1 from me for Salt.* so far.

*Do we have to type the irritating full stop every time we write Salt?

But, aren't the employees the same? Are you saying a name change invoked a complete change of attitude towards customers?

Your mileage may vary; I found them exceptionally helpful and courteous. Online / email or via the phone with Orange was a different story; my experience was at the Stadelhofen Salt store. Courtesy goes a long way.

I had no dealings with them on the phone before today so I can't say whether things are really different now but I had reason to call them this morning and I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience.

I was on hold for maximum a couple of minutes, had a very productive conversation with an extremely friendly and helpful customer service agent and now my problem is resolved. No complaints from me.

Random observation - for a couple of hours this morning my phone showed Salt. as the carrier but it's gone back to Orange CH again now.
