Orange - roaming costs for Western Europe

Just got billed the following amount for a tiny bit of roaming in Holland...

Outgoing calls 00h:13m:00s CHF 18.50

Calls received 00h:02m:00s CHF 1.40

SMS 4 messages CHF 1.80

Data 8.09 Mb CHF 30.61

I like the price one pays for subscriptions at Orange, but paying CHF 30.61 for 8 fekkin' megs...?!

/Switzerlanded.

Isn't it more or less the same with most of the big network providers?

Did you not get the SMS?

lol he used roaming. silly foreigners.

Apparently you used the service without checking the likely cost. The only one you have reason to be mad about is yourself.

So why didn't you add on a roaming plan for the month?!?

I got the same "surprise'' coming back from the US. But with 100 CHF bill for a few Mb. I was chocked!

Sorry, I know it must feel like you're being ganged up on. I learned my lesson ages ago with mobile phones, I think everyone has to go through it at least once.

But this

"I like the price one pays for subscriptions at Orange"

is the reason that you get stung the second you move outside those bounds.

While I was in Portugal this Christmas vacations, I disabled all data connection and even blocked the roaming data access to me sure I wouldn't get any surprise in the bill, yet:

I complained about this and Orange analysed it. They "couldn't find out what went wrong" and offered me 50.- discount in the next montly bill.

Thanks for the tip. I will try the same. I also turned off the 3g and therefore could not understand the bill!

yeah, data roaming is insanely priced by operators in all countries afaik...

These costs are the sort of thing that you should check before you travel. You can't exactly get mad at them, when you're the one who assumed it wouldn't cost you.

This weekend I went to Barcelona. Made sure Roaming-Data and obviously also the Data-Transfer, yet again:

One day I will sue them

Edit:

Just phoned Orange and made them block from their side any data-tranfer on Roaming, meaning that even if I activate data-transfer on my phone while I'm abroad, I won't get any access. This should solve the problem. Guess I'm not sueing them this soon
